Potenza Win Six-Goal Thriller 4-2 Against Cavese in Serie C

Potenza produced a ruthless attacking display to defeat Cavese 4-2 in Italian Serie C on Sunday, September 20, 2026. The match at the Stadio Alfredo Viviani was an entertaining end-to-end contest, with Potenza’s clinical finishing proving the difference in a six-goal encounter.

The victory strengthens Potenza’s push for a playoff spot, while Cavese are left with defensive concerns after conceding four times on the road.

Potenza took the lead in the 8th minute when Salvatore Caturano converted from the penalty spot after a handball in the box. Cavese responded well and equalised in the 23rd minute through Antonio Diop, who finished neatly after a quick counter-attack. Potenza regained control in the 35th minute when Luca Mazzeo scored with a powerful header from a corner.

Tactical Story

Potenza’s high press caused Cavese problems throughout the first half. By winning the ball in advanced areas, the home side created repeated scoring chances and forced Cavese into hurried clearances. Potenza’s midfield dominance allowed their forwards to attack with freedom, and the movement of Caturano and Rossetti stretched the visiting defence.

Cavese were dangerous on the break and scored twice with well-worked moves, but their defensive shape was too easily broken. Potenza’s ability to switch play from side to side created overloads, and their set-piece threat added another dimension.

Standout Players

Salvatore Caturano: A brace and a constant menace in the box, Caturano led the line with power and precision.

Matteo Rossetti: His late goal was the highlight of the match, and his energy in midfield helped Potenza control the tempo.

Francesco Urso: Cavese’s best player on the night, Urso scored a fine goal and never stopped probing for openings.

Standings and Season Impact

Potenza move into a promising position in the Serie C table, with their attacking form suggesting they can challenge for a promotion playoff place. The four-goal performance will boost confidence, but the coaching staff will want a tighter defensive display in future matches.

Cavese remain in the lower reaches of the division and need to address their away defensive record quickly. The defeat leaves them with work to do, though their two goals showed they can hurt opponents when they commit numbers forward.
