Pescara 1-1 Gubbio: Delfini Held as Gubbio Earn Valuable Away Point

Pescara and Gubbio played out a 1-1 draw at the Stadio Adriatico-Giovanni Cornacchia in Italian Serie C. Lorenzo Meazzi gave Pescara a first-half lead, but Davide Di Stefano equalised midway through the second half to secure a hard-earned point for the visitors.

Pescara controlled large periods of the match and created the better chances, but Gubbio’s resilience and organisation kept them in the game. The draw leaves both sides with mixed feelings: Pescara will feel two points slipped away, while Gubbio can be pleased with a disciplined away performance.

First Half: Pescara Take the Lead

Pescara started with intensity, pressing Gubbio high and forcing turnovers in the attacking third. Their movement in wide areas caused problems, and the opening goal arrived in the 28th minute. Lorenzo Meazzi collected a pass on the edge of the box, took a touch to set himself, and fired a low shot into the bottom corner.

Gubbio responded by dropping deeper and trying to frustrate the home side. They rarely threatened in the first half, but their defensive shape limited Pescara to shots from distance. The best chance before the break fell to Pescara’s striker, who headed narrowly over from a corner.

Second Half: Gubbio Find an Equaliser

Gubbio came out with more ambition after the interval and began to push more players forward. Their equaliser arrived in the 64th minute from a set piece. A well-delivered free-kick was flicked on at the near post, and Davide Di Stefano reacted quickest to stab the ball home from close range.

Pescara pushed for a winner and created several late chances. A shot from the edge of the box was tipped over, and a header from a corner was cleared off the line. Gubbio’s goalkeeper made two important saves in the final ten minutes, while the visitors also defended a series of crosses with determination.

Tactical Story

Pescara lined up in a 4-2-3-1 and looked to dominate possession through their central midfielders. Their full-backs pushed high to provide width, but that also left space for Gubbio to exploit on the counter. Pescara’s biggest issue was turning possession into clear chances, as Gubbio kept numbers behind the ball.

Gubbio set up in a compact 4-4-2, prioritising defensive solidity and quick breaks. Their midfielders worked tirelessly to close down passing lanes, and their equalising goal came from one of the few set-piece opportunities they earned. In the closing stages, they defended their penalty area with real commitment.

Standout Players

• Lorenzo Meazzi (Pescara): Scored a well-taken opener and was Pescara’s most creative outlet.
• Davide Di Stefano (Gubbio): Poached the equaliser and worked hard defensively from the front.
• Gubbio goalkeeper: Produced crucial late saves to deny Pescara a winner.
• Pescara midfield: Controlled the tempo but will feel they should have created more clear-cut chances.

Serie C Table Impact

The draw keeps both teams moving in the Italian Serie C table, though Pescara will view it as a missed opportunity to close the gap on the teams above them. Gubbio, meanwhile, will take confidence from a disciplined away display against one of the division’s stronger home sides.

Pescara’s manager admitted after the match that his team needed to be more ruthless in the final third, while Gubbio’s coach praised the character of his players. With the Serie C season still developing, both clubs will know that every point matters in the race for promotion and play-off positioning.
