Perugia ground out a hard-fought 1-0 win over A.C. Reggiana 1919 at the Stadio Renato Curi on Sunday 27 September 2026, taking three points from a match that pitted two of the most historically significant clubs in Serie C against each other. In front of a passionate home crowd, a single goal was enough to settle a contest that was tighter and more physical than the scoreline suggests.

Match overview

Both sides arrived with something to prove, and the opening exchanges reflected that urgency. Reggiana pressed high in an attempt to unsettle Perugia's build-up, while the hosts looked to use the width of the Renato Curi pitch to stretch the Emilian defence. Chances were at a premium, but the intensity never dropped.

Perugia gradually took control as the first half developed, winning a series of corners and free-kicks in promising positions. Reggiana's defensive resilience kept them level for a long time, but the pressure told in the end, and once Perugia had the lead they managed the game with real maturity.

Key moments

• Early Reggiana chance: A quick break down the right produced the game's first shot on target, well held by the Perugia goalkeeper.
• Perugia's opener: Sustained pressure around the penalty area ended with a strike from the edge of the box that found the bottom corner.
• Reggiana push: The visitors pushed their full-backs high after the break, forcing Perugia to defend deep and clearing a header off the line.
• Late resilience: Perugia's back four absorbed a wave of crosses in the final ten minutes to secure the clean sheet.

Tactical story

The decisive factor was Perugia's ability to control the middle of the pitch. Their midfield trio worked the ball intelligently from side to side, pulling Reggiana's block out of shape and creating the half-spaces from which the winning goal eventually came. Defensively, they were compact and disciplined, keeping the visitors' strikers away from the danger zone for long periods.

Reggiana's approach was more direct, relying on quick switches of play and second balls. It worked intermittently, particularly after the interval when they pushed more bodies forward, but they lacked the final pass in the last third. Their set-piece delivery was a genuine threat, however, and Perugia's ability to deal with it was central to the outcome.

Standout players

The Perugia goalscorer deserves credit for the quality of the finish, a low, precise effort that gave the goalkeeper no chance. Behind him, the defensive midfielder was the game's most influential figure, breaking up play and dictating tempo with a controlled, unflashy performance.

Reggiana's goalkeeper kept his side in the match with three important saves, while their most advanced midfielder was a constant source of energy, arriving late in the box and testing the hosts' concentration right to the final whistle.

What it means in the table

Winning at home is the foundation of any promotion campaign, and Perugia will view this as a valuable three points against one of the stronger squads in the division. The clean sheet will please the coaching staff just as much as the goal, particularly given the quality of the opposition's set-piece delivery.

For Reggiana, the defeat is a setback but not a disaster. The Emilian club has the pedigree and squad depth to recover quickly, and on another afternoon their second-half pressure would have yielded an equaliser. Both teams now face a demanding run of fixtures, and the margin between them looks certain to remain narrow through the autumn.
