SS Città di Campobasso and Sassari Torres shared the points in Italian Serie C on Sunday 4 October 2026, drawing 1-1 at the Stadio Antonio Molinari after a tense, evenly matched 90 minutes that reflected the fine margins separating the two clubs in the table.

A tight contest from the first whistle

The 20:30 kick-off under the Molinari floodlights produced exactly the kind of cagey, tactical fixture Serie C has become known for. Campobasso, backed by a vocal home crowd, controlled the opening exchanges and pushed bodies forward through the wide areas, while Torres sat deeper, defending in a compact block and looking to spring forward on the counter-attack through their quick wide players.

Neither goalkeeper was seriously tested in the first quarter of the match, but the pattern was set early: the hosts would have the ball, the visitors would have the space behind them.

Key moments

• Torres strike first: The Sardinian side broke the deadlock with a well-worked transition, moving the ball from defence to attack in three passes before finishing low into the far corner.
• Campobasso respond before the break: The equaliser arrived from sustained pressure, with the hosts finally converting a delivery into the box after forcing a series of corners.
• Second-half chances: Both teams had moments to win it — Campobasso through a header that clipped the top of the crossbar, Torres with a late counter that ended in a smart save.
• Late nerves: Four minutes of stoppage time brought a flurry of set pieces and a handful of yellow cards, but no decisive final touch.

Tactical story of the game

Campobasso lined up with an ambitious shape, pushing both full-backs high to pin Torres into their own half and generate overloads on the flanks. It worked in terms of territory, but it also left them vulnerable every time they lost possession in midfield — a risk Torres were clearly happy to exploit.

The visitors' game plan was built on defensive discipline and rapid counters. Their back line dropped deep, inviting pressure and daring Campobasso to break them down with combination play rather than crosses. For long stretches it was an effective strategy, and the away side's organisation frustrated the hosts into a number of speculative shots from distance.

Standout performers

The Torres goalkeeper was the busiest player on the pitch and produced two excellent saves in the second half to preserve the draw, while their goalscorer offered a constant outlet with intelligent running in behind. For Campobasso, the central midfielders dictated tempo well, and the full-backs delivered a stream of crosses that eventually produced the equalising goal.

What the result means for the Serie C standings

A single point apiece does little for either side's momentum. Campobasso remain in the chasing pack, still searching for the run of wins that would lift them towards the upper reaches of the division, while Torres will view an away draw as a solid, if slightly frustrating, return given the chances they created on the break.

Both clubs now turn their attention to the next round of fixtures, where three points will matter far more than another stalemate.
