Perugia power to a 5-1 Serie C victory at SS Città di Campobasso

Perugia produced one of the most emphatic away performances of their Serie C campaign, beating SS Città di Campobasso 5-1 on 18 October 2026. The visitors combined clinical finishing with relentless pressing, turning a competitive opening into a one-sided scoreline by the final whistle.

Match overview

Perugia set the tone from the first whistle. They pressed Campobasso high, forced errors in the home side’s build-up and created chances before the hosts had time to settle. The early breakthrough gave Perugia control, and a second goal soon followed as their midfield continued to dominate the central areas.

Campobasso did manage a response before half-time, pulling one goal back and briefly raising hopes of a comeback. But Perugia reasserted their authority after the interval, scoring three more goals as Campobasso’s defensive shape became increasingly stretched. The final 5-1 scoreline reflected Perugia’s superiority in both boxes and their ability to sustain pressure for long periods.

Key moments

• Early breakthrough: Perugia opened the scoring after a high turnover and a quick attacking transition.
• Quick second: The visitors doubled their lead with a composed finish, leaving Campobasso chasing the game.
• Campobasso response: The hosts reduced the deficit before half-time, giving the home crowd a brief lift.
• Second-half surge: Perugia scored three more after the restart, capitalising on space and Campobasso’s growing frustration.

Tactical story

Perugia’s success was built on aggressive pressing and quick ball circulation. Their midfield won the majority of second balls, and their full-backs pushed high to stretch Campobasso’s back line. Once Perugia had the lead, they were content to let Campobasso have possession in less dangerous areas before striking on the counter.

Campobasso struggled to cope with Perugia’s movement between the lines. The home side attempted to play out from the back, but repeated turnovers invited pressure and left the defence exposed. When Campobasso did attack, they lacked the final pass to seriously trouble Perugia’s goalkeeper. The tactical battle was decisively won by the visitors.

Standout performers

Perugia’s midfield was the engine room of the performance, combining energy with smart positioning and incisive passing. The forward line also deserves praise for converting the chances created and for continuing to run behind the Campobasso defence even with the game already won. For Campobasso, the goalkeeper made several saves that prevented an even heavier defeat, while the home side’s captain tried to keep the team organised during a difficult second half.

What the result means

The three points give Perugia a significant boost in the Serie C standings and reinforce their credentials in the promotion race. A 5-1 away win can be a statement result, especially when it comes with such a convincing second-half display. Campobasso, on the other hand, must regroup quickly. Conceding five goals at home will raise concerns about defensive structure and game management, and the response in the next fixture will be closely watched.
