Lecco and Union Brescia played out a pulsating 2-2 draw in Italian Serie C on Sunday, a result that left both sides with mixed emotions. Twice Lecco led, and twice Union Brescia responded, with a late equaliser ensuring the visitors escaped with a point from a fiercely contested Lombardy derby.

Match Overview

At the Stadio Rigamonti-Ceppi, Lecco started brightly and took the lead inside the opening 20 minutes when Riccardo Moreo converted from close range after a goalmouth scramble. The home crowd sensed a crucial victory, but Union Brescia grew into the game and levelled just after the half-hour mark through Matteo Cortesi, who curled a superb effort into the top corner from the edge of the box.

Lecco regained the advantage early in the second half when Lorenzo Pinzauti headed home a pinpoint cross. But Union Brescia refused to lie down and equalised for a second time in the 78th minute, Simone Ferrari finishing off a rapid counterattack. The closing stages were frantic, with both teams pushing for a winner, but neither could find the decisive goal.

Tactical Story

Lecco set up in a 4-3-1-2 system, looking to dominate the midfield and feed their front two early. That approach worked well in the first half, with Moreo and Pinzauti causing problems for Brescia's centre-backs. However, Union Brescia's coach adjusted at half-time, pushing the full-backs higher and switching to a 4-2-3-1 that stretched Lecco's defence.

The game became a battle of transitions in the second half. Lecco's midfield trio struggled to track Brescia's late runs, and the equaliser came directly from that weakness. Lecco's manager responded by bringing on fresh legs in midfield, but the team dropped deeper as the match wore on, inviting pressure. Brescia's relentless pressing in the final 15 minutes nearly yielded a third goal, but Lecco held on for a share of the spoils.

Standout Players

Matteo Cortesi (Union Brescia) was the standout performer, not only for his beautifully taken goal but for his constant movement and link-up play. Simone Ferrari also impressed with his energy and composure for the late equaliser. For Lecco, Riccardo Moreo and Lorenzo Pinzauti both took their goals well, while goalkeeper Matteo Pissardo kept his side in the game with a crucial save at 2-1.

Season Impact

The draw leaves both teams in the middle of a tightly packed Serie C table, where every point is vital in the race for promotion play-off spots. Lecco will feel they let two points slip after leading twice, while Union Brescia will take confidence from their resilience and fighting spirit. The head-to-head record between these two Lombardy rivals remains evenly balanced, and this result adds another chapter to a growing rivalry.

Both sides now turn their attention to midweek fixtures, with Lecco desperate to rediscover their winning touch at home and Union Brescia looking to build on a solid away performance. The race for Serie C promotion is already heating up, and this draw could prove to be a valuable point for either side come the end of the season.
