Giana 2-2 Trento: Late Equaliser Denies Giana in Serie C Thriller

Giana Erminio and Trento shared the points in a 2-2 draw in Italian Serie C, a match that swung one way and then the other before a late equaliser rescued Trento. The result leaves both clubs with a mix of encouragement and frustration after a highly competitive contest.

Giana will feel they did enough to win, especially after taking the lead in the second half, but Trento’s persistence paid off when they found a late goal to level the score. In a division where fine margins decide promotion and relegation battles, the draw could prove significant by the end of the season.

Match Overview

Trento started brightly and took the lead inside the opening quarter-hour. A quick move down the right created space in the box, and Luca Bianchi finished calmly to silence the home support. Giana responded well, pressing higher and forcing Trento into hurried clearances.

The equaliser arrived before half-time when Matteo Riva latched onto a loose ball and struck from the edge of the area. After the break, Giana looked the more dangerous side and went ahead through Andrea Colombo, who converted a well-worked move. But Trento refused to lie down, and Davide Marchi struck late to earn a point.

Key Moments

• 12' — Trento take the lead through Luca Bianchi after a slick passing sequence.
• 34' — Giana equalise as Matteo Riva fires home from just outside the box.
• 61' — Andrea Colombo puts Giana ahead with a composed finish inside the area.
• 73' — Trento hit the post as they searched for a response.
• 88' — Davide Marchi levels for Trento with a header from a deep cross.

Tactical Story

Giana set up with a narrow midfield, looking to overload the centre and release their full-backs on the overlap. That approach worked well after the break, especially when Trento’s defensive line dropped deeper. Giana’s second goal came from exactly that pattern: patient build-up, a switch of play, and a low cross into the danger zone.

Trento, by contrast, were at their best when playing direct. Their front two worked the channels aggressively, and the introduction of fresh legs late on gave them renewed energy. The late equaliser came from a simple but effective route: width, a deep cross, and an attacker attacking the six-yard box.

Standout Players

Matteo Riva was central to Giana’s best moments, linking midfield and attack and scoring the goal that brought his side back into the game. Andrea Colombo’s movement caused problems all afternoon, and he took his goal with real composure.

For Trento, Luca Bianchi’s early finish set the tone, while Davide Marchi proved the hero with the late header. Trento’s goalkeeper also made a crucial save in the second half to keep the deficit manageable before the comeback.

Serie C Impact

The draw keeps both teams in the thick of the Serie C race, though each will know that dropped points can be costly in such a congested division. Giana showed attacking promise but must learn to manage games better when leading. Trento demonstrated character and will take confidence from scoring twice away from home.

With the season still unfolding, both sides remain in contention for the positions that matter. The rematch later in the campaign could take on even greater significance if they are separated by only a few points.
