Giana claimed a hard-fought 2-1 away victory over Desenzano Calvina in Italian Serie C on Sunday 25 October 2026, using a disciplined defensive display and two well-timed goals to take all three points.

Match overview

Desenzano Calvina enjoyed more of the ball in the opening half but struggled to turn possession into clear chances against a compact Giana side. The visitors sat in a organised mid-block, limited space between the lines and looked to strike on the counter-attack. That approach paid off midway through the first half when they took the lead.

Desenzano improved after the break and found an equaliser through a sustained spell of pressure, but Giana responded well. The visitors regained their composure, defended their box with concentration and found a winning goal in the second half to secure an important result on the road.

Key moments

• 21st minute: Giana took the lead with a quick counter-attack, finishing calmly after a through ball split the Desenzano defence.
• 49th minute: Desenzano equalised early in the second half, converting a cross from close range after a period of pressure.
• 73rd minute: Giana scored the winner, arriving at the back post to turn in a low delivery from the left.

Tactical story

Desenzano’s build-up play was patient, but Giana’s defensive structure made it difficult for the hosts to find pockets of space in the final third. The visitors were happy to concede possession in less dangerous areas and then break quickly through their forwards. That game plan required concentration, and Giana delivered it for long spells.

Desenzano pushed more players forward after conceding the second goal, but Giana’s back line held firm and dealt with a series of late crosses.

Standout players

Giana’s midfielder was instrumental in linking defence and attack, while their centre-back produced several important clearances in the closing stages. Desenzano’s wide player was their most consistent threat, delivering the cross that led to the equaliser.

Season impact

The win gives Giana a valuable three points in Italian Serie C and rewards their disciplined away performance. Desenzano Calvina will be disappointed to lose at home after enjoying more possession, but the match highlighted the importance of converting territorial control into clear-cut chances.
