Crotone edged a hard-fought contest against Salernitana on 26 September 2026, winning 2-1 at the Stadio Ezio Scida in a Serie C fixture that lived up to the billing between two clubs with serious promotion ambitions. In front of a passionate home crowd, Crotone's attacking quality proved just enough to separate two well-matched sides.

Match Overview

The hosts made the brighter start and were rewarded for their early pressure, taking the lead with a well-constructed goal that rewarded patient build-up play. Salernitana responded impressively, however, and levelled the scores before the interval to set up a compelling second half. The decisive moment came after the break, when Crotone restored their advantage and then defended it with maturity, managing the closing stages with real professionalism.

A 2-1 scoreline captures the balance of the match accurately: Crotone were the sharper side, but Salernitana pushed them all the way and will feel they deserved something from the game.

Key Moments

• Crotone took the lead midway through the first half, finishing off a flowing move down the right flank.
• Salernitana equalised before the break with a composed finish after winning the ball high up the pitch.
• The winning goal arrived in the second period, a clinical strike that beat the goalkeeper at his near post.
• Salernitana pressed hard for a second equaliser and forced a fine save from the Crotone goalkeeper in the closing stages.
• A late defensive block from the Crotone back line preserved all three points.

Tactical Story

Crotone's approach combined controlled possession with quick switches of play, looking to isolate their wide attackers against Salernitana's full-backs. That strategy paid dividends for the opening goal and continued to cause problems throughout. Their midfield trio won the majority of the second balls, giving the hosts a platform to sustain attacks.

Salernitana's response was to press higher and force turnovers in dangerous areas, which brought them back into the game. Their equaliser came directly from that aggressive approach. In the second half, however, the visitors' intensity dipped slightly, and Crotone exploited the space in behind to score what proved to be the winner. Salernitana's late surge was admirable but ultimately unrewarded.

Standout Performers

Crotone's goalscorers inevitably take the plaudits, but the performance of their goalkeeper in the final twenty minutes was just as important, with a string of confident saves. The captain led by example in midfield, controlling the rhythm of the game and tracking back diligently. For Salernitana, their playmaker was the standout, linking play intelligently and driving his team forward, while their striker's movement caused problems all evening.

Table and Season Impact

This is a valuable three points for Crotone, particularly against a direct rival in the promotion race. It strengthens their standing in the Serie C table and reinforces the Scida as a difficult place to visit. Salernitana leave with nothing to show for a committed display, and the narrow defeat will sting, but their performance suggests they will remain firmly in the promotion conversation as the season develops.

On a night of fine margins, Crotone's efficiency in both boxes was the difference between a win and a draw.
