Potenza produced a ruthless away performance in Italian Serie C on Sunday, dismantling Barletta 4-1 with a clinical display of counter-attacking football. The visitors were sharper in both boxes, scoring at key moments and punishing defensive errors to claim a convincing three points on the road.

Match overview

Barletta started with intent, pushing men forward and trying to use the home crowd to their advantage. But Potenza's compact 4-4-2 mid-block absorbed the early pressure and then struck with devastating efficiency. The opener came against the run of play, a quick turnover in midfield followed by a precise through ball and a composed finish. Barletta equalized shortly after with a well-taken header from a corner, briefly restoring parity and lifting the home support.

However, the momentum shifted again before half-time when Potenza regained the lead from a set piece, a powerful header that left the goalkeeper rooted. The second half was one-way traffic. Potenza added a third on the break and a fourth late on, as Barletta's defense became increasingly stretched. The scoreline flattered Potenza slightly, but their finishing and game management were excellent.

Key moments

• 12th minute: Potenza take the lead with a slick counter-attack, finished low into the far corner.
• 27th minute: Barletta equalize from a corner, a towering header at the near post.
• 43rd minute: Potenza restore their advantage with a free-kick header.
• 61st minute: A third goal arrives after a defensive mix-up, slotted into an empty net.
• 84th minute: Potenza complete the scoring with a long-range strike that dips under the crossbar.

Tactical story

Potenza's success was built on disciplined pressing and rapid transitions. They allowed Barletta to have the ball in harmless areas and then exploded forward through their wingers. Barletta's back four struggled with Potenza's movement between the lines, and the midfield failed to track runners. The home side's build-up was too slow, allowing Potenza to reset their defensive shape. When Barletta did create chances, they were often from set pieces rather than open play.

Standout players

Potenza's striker was the star of the show, involved in three of the four goals with a combination of intelligent runs and clinical finishing. Their right winger was a constant outlet, beating his man and delivering dangerous crosses. In midfield, the captain controlled the tempo and won possession repeatedly. For Barletta, the goalkeeper made a string of saves to prevent an even heavier defeat, and their central defender scored the equalizer but was part of a back line that endured a difficult afternoon.

Table and season impact

This 4-1 victory gives Potenza a significant boost in the Serie C standings, strengthening their position in the playoff race and sending a warning to their rivals. For Barletta, the defeat leaves them with work to do, especially defensively, as they look to climb away from the lower reaches of the table. Potenza's goal difference also receives a healthy boost, which could prove crucial in the tight margins of Serie C. Barletta must regroup quickly, with a difficult run of fixtures on the horizon.
