ASD Pineto Calcio secured a narrow 1-0 Serie C victory over Gubbio at the Stadio Mimmo Pavone, with a second-half header deciding a tight and fiercely contested match.

Pineto were disciplined from the start, defending in a compact block and looking to hurt Gubbio from set pieces. The decisive moment arrived in the 67th minute when a corner was flicked on and headed home at the back post. Gubbio pushed for an equaliser but found Pineto’s defence and goalkeeper in determined mood.

Match overview

Gubbio saw more of the ball, especially in the second half, but struggled to create clear openings against a well-drilled Pineto side. The hosts were happy to concede possession in harmless areas and relied on quick breaks to relieve pressure. Their patience paid off with the winning goal, and they defended their lead with maturity in the closing stages.

• 67’ — Pineto score the only goal of the game with a back-post header from a corner.
• 78’ — Gubbio force a sharp save from the Pineto goalkeeper with a low drive from outside the box.
• 89’ — Pineto clear a late goalmouth scramble to preserve the clean sheet.

Tactical story

Pineto’s approach was built on defensive solidity. Their back line stayed compact, the midfield screened the space in front of the defence, and Gubbio were forced into wide crosses that were comfortably dealt with. The hosts also targeted set pieces throughout, sensing that Gubbio were vulnerable in the air.

Gubbio’s best spell came after conceding, but their possession lacked penetration. Pineto dropped deeper, invited pressure, and then used the pace of their wide players to carry the ball upfield on the counter. It was not always pretty, but it was effective.

Standout players

Pineto’s centre-back was outstanding, winning headers and organising the back line throughout. Their goalkeeper made two crucial saves in the final 15 minutes. For Gubbio, the midfield creator worked hard to find gaps, but the forward line was too often isolated against a crowded defence.

What the result means

The three points are invaluable for Pineto in the Serie C table, giving them a hard-earned home win to build on. Gubbio leave with frustration after dominating possession without finding a goal. The result reinforces the importance of set-piece quality and defensive concentration in a division where margins are often razor-thin.
