AS Sorrento Calcio 2-0 Casarano: Sorrento seal composed home victory

AS Sorrento Calcio claimed a 2-0 win over Casarano in Italian Serie C on Saturday, October 3, 2026, producing a patient and well-organized performance at the Stadio Italia. The home side scored at the end of the first half and added a second after the break, securing three valuable points in front of their own supporters.

The result gave Sorrento another important boost in the Serie C Girone C standings, while Casarano were left to reflect on a night when they competed well in spells but lacked the final touch in the attacking third.

Match overview

Sorrento began with intent, pressing Casarano high and forcing the visitors into several hurried clearances. The home midfield kept the tempo brisk, moving the ball from side to side and looking for gaps between Casarano’s defensive lines. Casarano, to their credit, defended in a compact 4-2-3-1 shape and tried to spring counterattacks through the channels.

The opening goal arrived in the 41st minute, just as Casarano seemed to be heading into the interval with their clean sheet intact. Sorrento worked the ball into the box after a sustained spell of possession, and Matteo Cammarota finished calmly from close range after a low cross from the right. It was a goal that rewarded Sorrento’s patience and pressure.

Casarano responded after the restart with more urgency, pushing their full-backs higher and committing extra bodies forward. That approach created a few half-chances, but it also left space behind, and Sorrento were happy to exploit it.

Key moments

• 12th minute: Casarano’s first real opening came from a set piece, but the header drifted wide of the far post.
• 41st minute: Sorrento broke the deadlock through Matteo Cammarota, who reacted quickest inside the penalty area.
• 54th minute: Casarano forced a sharp save from the Sorrento goalkeeper after a dipping effort from the edge of the box.
• 76th minute: Sorrento doubled the lead when Vincenzo Di Dato arrived late in the box and side-footed home a cut-back.
• 88th minute: Casarano pushed numbers forward, but Sorrento’s defence held firm and cleared every dangerous delivery.

Tactical story

Sorrento’s 4-3-3 worked effectively because the midfield trio controlled the middle third without needing to overcommit. The wingers stayed wide, stretching Casarano’s back four, while the central striker dropped deeper to link play. That movement created the space for late runs into the box, which proved decisive for both goals.

Casarano’s best moments came when they bypassed the midfield with quick diagonal passes. However, their final ball was often too heavy or too close to the goalkeeper. Defensively, they struggled with Sorrento’s rotations, especially when the home side switched play from right to left.

Standout players

Matteo Cammarota was central to Sorrento’s attacking play, not only for his opening goal but also for his link-up work between the lines. Vincenzo Di Dato’s late run and finish killed the game, while Sorrento’s goalkeeper made two important saves to preserve the clean sheet.

For Casarano, the goalkeeper kept the score respectable with a string of stops, and their captain in midfield never stopped trying to drive the team forward. Still, the visitors lacked a consistent goal threat over the 90 minutes.

Standings and season impact

The three points lifted Sorrento into a stronger position in the Serie C Girone C table, keeping them in touch with the playoff places. For Casarano, the defeat was a missed opportunity to climb away from the mid-table congestion. The head-to-head record now favors Sorrento, and the home side will take confidence from a clean sheet as they prepare for their next fixture.
