Ravenna secure narrow 1-0 away win over AS Ostia Mare

Ravenna claimed a hard-fought 1-0 victory at AS Ostia Mare in Italian Serie C, with Riccardo Fabbri’s second-half goal proving enough to separate the sides. It was a match of patience and defensive discipline, and Ravenna’s ability to take one of their few clear chances made the difference.

AS Ostia Mare enjoyed more possession and created the better of the early chances, but they could not find a way past a well-organized Ravenna defense. The visitors sat compact, invited pressure, and looked to strike on the counter. That plan worked perfectly in the 63rd minute when Fabbri finished a swift break with a precise low shot.

Match overview

Ostia Mare started the game with a high tempo, pressing Ravenna’s build-up and forcing several corners. Their midfield found space between the lines, but the final pass was often lacking, and Ravenna’s center-backs dealt comfortably with crosses into the box. As the first half wore on, the game became more scrappy, with both teams struggling to keep possession for long periods.

Ravenna’s defensive shape remained disciplined after the break. They dropped into a 4-4-2 block out of possession and used their wide midfielders to track Ostia Mare’s advancing full-backs. The winning goal came from a turnover in midfield, followed by a direct pass into the channel and a composed finish from Fabbri. Ostia Mare pushed hard for an equalizer, but Ravenna’s goalkeeper made two important saves to preserve the clean sheet.

Key moments

• 18’ – Ostia Mare’s best early chance, a header from a corner that went just wide.
• 63’ – 0-1: Riccardo Fabbri scored for Ravenna, finishing a counterattack with a low strike.
• 71’ – Ostia Mare hit the post through a long-range effort.
• 84’ – Ravenna’s goalkeeper produced a strong save to deny a close-range header.
• 90+4’ – Ostia Mare’s frustrations boiled over with a late yellow card for dissent.

Tactical story

Ravenna’s approach was clear: defend the central areas, force Ostia Mare wide, and attack quickly when possession was won. Their two central midfielders screened the back four effectively, and the front two worked hard to close down passing lanes. Ostia Mare, meanwhile, struggled to break down a packed defense. Their best moments came from set pieces and shots from distance, but they lacked a decisive final touch.

The home side’s full-backs pushed high in search of an equalizer, which left space behind. Ravenna almost punished them again late on, but the score remained 1-0. It was a professional away performance built on organization and clinical finishing.

Standout players

Riccardo Fabbri was the match-winner for Ravenna, and his movement throughout the game caused problems for Ostia Mare’s defense. Ravenna’s goalkeeper was equally important, making key saves in the final 20 minutes. For AS Ostia Mare, the central midfielder who dictated play in the first half was their standout, but he lacked support in the final third.

Table impact

Ravenna climb further up the Serie C table and strengthen their push for a play-off spot with an important away win. AS Ostia Mare remain in a difficult position and will be concerned about their lack of goals at home. The narrow defeat continues a frustrating pattern of good build-up play without reward, and they will need to find a scoring solution quickly.
