US Pergolettese won a five-goal thriller against A.C. Ospitaletto, scoring a stoppage-time winner to secure a 3-2 away victory in Italian Serie C. The match swung one way and then the other, with Ospitaletto fighting back from a goal down to lead in the second half before Pergolettese found a late response to take all three points.

Match overview

Pergolettese made the stronger start and took the lead early on, capitalising on a loose ball in midfield and moving it quickly into the penalty area. Ospitaletto responded well, gradually finding their rhythm and equalising before half-time with a well-placed shot from the edge of the box.

The home side carried that momentum into the second half and took the lead just before the hour mark. A quick counter-attack ended with a low finish at the far post, and Ospitaletto suddenly looked the more likely team to go on and win. But Pergolettese refused to fold. They equalised in the 78th minute after a sustained spell of pressure, and then found the winner in stoppage time when a cross from the right was converted from close range.

• 57th minute: Ospitaletto complete the turnaround and lead 2-1.

Tactical story

The game was defined by transitions. Both sides looked dangerous when attacking quickly, but neither was fully comfortable when forced to defend for long spells. Pergolettese’s midfield pressed aggressively in the first half, forcing Ospitaletto into rushed passes, while Ospitaletto’s best moments came from direct running and quick combinations in wide areas.

After Ospitaletto took the lead, they dropped slightly deeper in an attempt to protect their advantage. That invited pressure, and Pergolettese responded by pushing more players into the box and delivering a series of crosses. The late winner was a reward for their persistence, but it also exposed Ospitaletto’s difficulty in managing the closing stages of a tight game.

Standout performers

Pergolettese’s centre-forward was the match-winner, scoring twice and holding the ball up well under pressure. His movement in the box created space for teammates and gave Ospitaletto’s defenders a constant problem. For Ospitaletto, the captain and midfield anchor was excellent for long periods, breaking up play and starting attacks, but his team could not hold on for a point.

What it means

The away win gives Pergolettese a valuable lift in the Serie C standings and reinforces their reputation as a side capable of grinding out results. Ospitaletto, meanwhile, are left to reflect on a painful late defeat. Their comeback from an early setback showed character, but the inability to see out the game will feel like a missed opportunity in a competitive division where late points can shape the entire season.
