Modena Fight Back to Beat Vicenza 2-1

Modena produced a determined comeback to defeat Vicenza 2-1 in Italian Serie B at the Stadio Romeo Menti. After falling behind early, the visitors responded with a measured fightback, equalizing before half-time and scoring the decisive goal in the second half to take all three points.

The win reflects Modena’s growing resilience and ability to respond to adversity on the road. For Vicenza, it was a painful result after a bright start, with the home side unable to protect their early advantage as Modena gradually took control of the midfield and created the better chances after the break.

Match Overview

Vicenza started brightly and were rewarded for their early pressure with the opening goal, finishing off a flowing move that stretched Modena’s defense. The home crowd responded, and for a period Vicenza looked the more confident side, pressing high and forcing Modena into rushed passes.

Modena, however, stayed calm and began to find space in central areas. Their equalizer arrived before half-time and changed the mood of the contest. After the interval, Modena were the more aggressive team, pinning Vicenza back and eventually finding the winning goal through a well-worked attacking sequence.

Key Moments

• Vicenza’s early opener: The hosts took the lead with a sharp move down the flank and a finish from inside the box, giving them an ideal start.
• Modena’s equalizer: The visitors responded before the break, capitalizing on a loose ball in the penalty area and converting to level the score.
• Second-half pressure: Modena emerged with greater intensity, winning second balls and pushing Vicenza deeper into their own half.
• Winning goal: Modena completed the turnaround with a composed finish after a quick exchange on the edge of the area, leaving Vicenza with little time to respond.

Tactical Story

Vicenza’s early goal came from positive, front-foot football, but the home side gradually dropped deeper as Modena adjusted their shape. Modena began to dominate the middle of the pitch, pressing Vicenza’s ball carriers and forcing turnovers in promising areas. That control allowed the visitors to sustain attacks rather than rely on isolated breaks.

The decisive tactical shift came in the second half, when Modena pushed their full-backs higher and committed more bodies forward. Vicenza struggled to clear their lines and were eventually undone by Modena’s sharper movement in and around the box. The home side’s late attempts to equalize lacked the fluency they had shown in the opening stages.

Standout Performers

Modena’s midfield drove the comeback, combining energy with composure on the ball. The equalizing goal settled the visitors, and their attacking players grew increasingly influential as space opened up in the second half. The winning finish capped a strong individual and collective display after a difficult opening period.

Vicenza’s bright start was built on quick passing and energetic pressing, but the home side could not maintain that intensity. Their goalkeeper made several important stops to keep the score level for long periods, but Modena’s persistence eventually told. Vicenza’s defenders will be disappointed with the manner in which the winning goal was conceded.

What It Means

The victory gives Modena an important away win and reinforces their ability to compete in tight Serie B matches. Coming from behind against a home side with early momentum is a positive sign for the squad’s character and tactical flexibility.

For Vicenza, the defeat is a reminder that early leads must be protected with better game management. The home side showed promise in attack but will need to be more resilient when opponents raise their pressing intensity. In a division where small margins decide results, this is a match Vicenza will feel they let slip.
