SudTirol and Sampdoria played out a 1-1 draw in Italian Serie B at the Stadio Druso on 24 October 2026, a result that reflected a keenly contested night in Bolzano. The hosts struck first and defended with discipline for long spells, but Sampdoria’s persistence earned them a share of the points in a match that had plenty of tactical intrigue.

Match overview

SudTirol began with the kind of intensity their home crowd expects, pressing high and forcing Sampdoria into hurried passes at the back. The visitors gradually settled into possession, but the first clear momentum belonged to the home side, who moved the ball quickly through the channels and asked questions of the Sampdoria back line.

The opening goal arrived midway through the first half, giving SudTirol a deserved advantage. It came from a well-worked attacking sequence rather than a set piece, with the hosts drawing Sampdoria toward one side before switching play and finding space in the box. Sampdoria responded with more urgency before the break, but the home side’s compact shape held firm.

Key moments

• SudTirol took the lead in the first half after a patient build-up and a composed finish.
• Sampdoria increased their tempo after the interval, pushing more bodies into midfield and widening their attacking shape.
• The equaliser came in the second half when Sampdoria finally turned sustained pressure into a goal, converting a dangerous attacking move.
• Both sides had late half-chances, but neither goalkeeper was seriously beaten again.

Tactical story

SudTirol’s approach was built on compactness and quick transitions. The home side looked comfortable defending in a mid-to-low block, inviting Sampdoria to pass around them before springing forward through the wide areas. That plan worked well for long periods, especially in the first half when the visitors struggled to find pockets of space between the lines.

Sampdoria’s response was to play with greater width and stretch the SudTirol defence. Their midfielders began to arrive later in attacking moves, and the full-backs pushed higher to create overloads. The adjustment paid off with the equaliser, though Sampdoria will feel they left it late to produce their best attacking spell.

Standout performers

The SudTirol goalkeeper deserved credit for a composed display, handling crosses well and making an important save before the equaliser. In front of him, the central defenders dealt with Sampdoria’s second-half pressure bravely. For Sampdoria, the midfield controller grew into the game and was central to their improved possession after the break, while the substitute who helped change the tempo gave the visitors a useful lift.

What it means

A point apiece keeps both sides moving in the Serie B standings, though the mood will differ. SudTirol will be satisfied with their home resilience and the quality of their first-half performance, while Sampdoria will take encouragement from the character shown in coming from behind. In a division where away points are precious, the draw has value for both clubs as the season begins to take shape.
