Lazio claimed a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Parma in their Italian Serie A meeting at the Stadio Olimpico on 25 October 2026, coming from behind to secure all three points in a match that blended early Parma sharpness with sustained Lazio pressure. Mattia Zaccagni and Valentín Castellanos provided the goals for the hosts, while Dennis Man had given Parma a deserved first-half lead. The result strengthens Lazio’s position in the upper half of the Serie A table and leaves Parma reflecting on a strong start that ultimately slipped away.

Match overview

Parma began with a clear plan: stay compact, deny Lazio space between the lines, and spring forward quickly when turnovers arrived. That approach paid off in the 18th minute when Adrián Bernabé threaded a pass into the channel for Man, whose low finish beat the Lazio goalkeeper to make it 1-0. The visitors continued to look dangerous on the counter, but Lazio gradually tightened their grip on possession and began to pin Parma deeper.

Lazio’s equaliser arrived four minutes before half-time. Zaccagni collected the ball on the left, drifted inside, and curled a precise right-footed effort beyond the goalkeeper’s reach. The goal changed the mood inside the stadium and gave Lazio the momentum heading into the interval. After the restart, the hosts pushed higher up the pitch, with Nicolò Rovella dictating tempo and the front three stretching Parma’s back line.

Key moments

• 18’ – Parma take the lead: Man finishes a swift counter-attack after a well-weighted pass from Bernabé.
• 41’ – Lazio equalise: Zaccagni cuts in from the left and curls a shot into the far corner.
• 67’ – Lazio go ahead: Castellanos meets a Zaccagni cross with a firm header to make it 2-1.
• 84’ – Parma threaten: A close-range effort is blocked in the six-yard box as Lazio defend desperately.
• 90+3’ – Lazio hold on: The hosts clear a late free-kick and run down the clock to secure the win.

Tactical story

Lazio controlled the ball for long spells, finishing with well over 60 percent possession and a clear advantage in shots. Their 4-3-3 shape allowed the full-backs to advance and create overloads wide, while Rovella’s positioning helped recycle possession and limit Parma’s counter-attacking opportunities after the break. Parma’s compact 4-4-2 mid-block worked well in the opening half-hour, but the amount of defensive running eventually told.

The decisive adjustment came from Lazio’s willingness to attack down the left more directly. Zaccagni became the game’s central attacking figure, combining with the overlapping full-back and drifting into central areas. Parma’s back line handled Castellanos well for long periods but could not prevent the Argentine from finding space for the winning header. Late substitutions added fresh legs for Lazio, helping them protect the lead in the final stages.

Standout players

Mattia Zaccagni was the standout performer, scoring the equaliser and providing the assist for the winner. His ability to change direction and deliver quality from wide areas gave Parma problems throughout. Nicolò Rovella was influential in midfield, setting the tempo and covering ground intelligently, while Valentín Castellanos produced the decisive moment with a striker’s header.

For Parma, Dennis Man was the brightest attacking outlet and took his goal well. Adrián Bernabé showed composure in possession and created the opener, while the Parma goalkeeper made several important saves to keep the match close. The visitors will take encouragement from their first-half display but will be frustrated by their inability to hold the lead.

Serie A impact

The win lifts Lazio into the European qualification conversation and gives them valuable momentum in a crowded Serie A schedule. Parma remain in the lower half of the table but showed enough organisation and counter-attacking quality to suggest they can collect points in the coming weeks. Both sides now turn their attention to their next Serie A fixtures, with Lazio looking to build a run of results and Parma aiming to turn competitive performances into points.

For Lazio, the 2-1 result over Parma is the kind of victory that can shape a season: not flawless, but resilient, and built on the influence of key attacking players. For Parma, the performance offered encouragement even in defeat, with the challenge now being to sustain that level for the full 90 minutes.
