Pro Vercelli U20 delivered one of the more impressive away displays of the Campionato Primavera 2 weekend, defeating Reggiana U19 3-1 on Saturday evening. The visitors combined compact defending with ruthless finishing, scoring at key moments to quiet the home crowd and secure a valuable three points on the road.

Match overview

Reggiana began brightly and enjoyed the lion’s share of possession in the opening quarter, but Pro Vercelli’s low block and quick transitions proved difficult to break down. The visitors took the lead in the 12th minute when Matteo Ferraris latched onto a loose ball just outside the box and drove a low strike into the bottom corner. Reggiana responded well and equalised in the 31st minute through Riccardo Serra, who converted from close range after a sustained spell of pressure. The second half, however, belonged to Pro Vercelli. Ferraris restored the lead in the 58th minute with a composed finish on the counter, and Andrea Gallo made sure of the result in the 86th minute after another swift break.

Key moments

• 12’ – Pro Vercelli strike first: Ferraris punished Reggiana’s failure to clear with a crisp low finish.
• 31’ – Reggiana level: Serra reacted quickest in the box to turn home a rebound.
• 58’ – Ferraris restores the lead: A fast transition ended with the forward finishing confidently one-on-one.
• 86’ – Gallo seals the win: The substitute raced clear and slotted past the goalkeeper to end Reggiana’s resistance.

Tactical story

Reggiana’s build-up play was patient and often stretched Pro Vercelli from side to side, but the hosts lacked a decisive final pass in the attacking third. Pro Vercelli, by contrast, accepted less possession and focused on winning the ball in midfield before attacking vertically. Ferraris’ movement in behind was a constant threat, and the midfield trio’s ability to close central spaces forced Reggiana into hopeful crosses. The visitors’ game management in the final 20 minutes was especially mature, slowing the tempo and using the flanks to relieve pressure.

Standout performers

Ferraris was the match-winner with two well-taken goals and relentless running. Gallo’s impact from the bench gave Pro Vercelli fresh energy in the final stages, while the goalkeeper produced two important saves at 1-1 to keep the visitors level. For Reggiana, Serra was the brightest attacking outlet, but the home side’s midfield struggled to maintain control after the hour mark.

Season impact

The victory gives Pro Vercelli U20 momentum in the Campionato Primavera 2 and lifts the side into a more competitive position in the standings. Reggiana U19 remain with work to do, particularly in converting territorial dominance into clear chances. The result also underlines the value of Pro Vercelli’s counterattacking approach in away fixtures, where space behind the opposition defence has repeatedly proven decisive.
