Tactical story

Benevento Youth impressed early with their movement off the ball and willingness to attack through central areas. Their opener came from a well-timed run that exposed space between the Monopoli centre-backs. However, as the game progressed, Monopoli adjusted their pressing and began to win possession higher up the pitch, allowing them to dictate the rhythm of the contest.

Monopoli’s second-half performance was built on quick transitions and aggressive running from midfield. They defended deeper after taking the lead, aiming to protect the advantage and hit on the break. That plan almost worked, but Benevento’s late surge and willingness to send extra bodies into the box produced the decisive moment in stoppage time. The draw was a fair reflection of a game where both sides had strong spells.

Standout performers

Monopoli’s attacking midfielder was at the heart of most of their best moves, linking play and creating chances with sharp passes. The forward who scored their second goal showed excellent movement and finishing. Benevento’s goalkeeper made several key saves to keep his side within reach, while the late substitute who scored the equaliser made an immediate impact with energy and positioning in the box.

Season impact

The point keeps both teams competitive in the Campionato Primavera 2 and highlights the fine margins in youth football. Monopoli U19 will be frustrated to concede so late, but their comeback and overall performance offer encouragement. Benevento Youth will take confidence from their resilience and late equaliser, though they will also need to address the defensive lapses that allowed Monopoli to take the lead.
