Monopoli U19 claimed an impressive 2-0 away victory over Ascoli U19 in the Italian Campionato Primavera 2 on 24 October 2026, with a goal in each half securing the points against a home side that controlled long spells of the game without ever finding a finish. The result highlights the growing strength of Monopoli's youth setup and leaves Ascoli reflecting on a frustrating evening in front of goal.

Match overview

Ascoli started brightly, moving the ball quickly and pushing their wide players high up the pitch in an attempt to pin Monopoli back. The hosts created the better of the early chances but were repeatedly let down by their final ball, and they were punished for that wastefulness when Monopoli took the lead against the run of play. The second half followed a similar pattern, with Ascoli enjoying more possession but struggling to break down a well-organised visiting defence, and Monopoli sealed the win with a second goal on the counterattack.

Key moments

• Midway through the first half: Monopoli take the lead with a composed finish after a quick exchange on the edge of the area.
• Before half-time: Ascoli's best chance of the match is cleared off the line as the visitors survive a goalmouth scramble.
• Early in the second half: The home side continue to press, forcing a series of corners, but Monopoli's goalkeeper remains largely untroubled.
• Late in the game: Monopoli double their advantage, breaking at speed after an Ascoli attack broke down and finishing low past the goalkeeper.

Tactical story

The contrast in approach was clear throughout. Ascoli wanted to dominate the ball and play through the thirds, but their movement in the final third was too static, allowing Monopoli's back line to stay compact and deal with crosses comfortably. Monopoli, by contrast, defended with discipline and looked to transition quickly whenever they won the ball back. That game plan required patience and a strong collective work rate, both of which the visitors delivered in abundance, particularly in the closing 20 minutes when they protected their lead with maturity beyond their years.

Standout performers

Monopoli's goalkeeper was central to the clean sheet, handling confidently and commanding his area during Ascoli's best spells of pressure. The visiting midfield also impressed, breaking up play effectively and launching the counters that produced both goals. For Ascoli, the effort was there but the cutting edge was missing, and the two central defenders were left exposed by their team's attacking ambition.

Season impact

Three points away from home in the Campionato Primavera 2 is always valuable, and Monopoli U19 will take confidence from a performance built on organisation and efficiency rather than luck. Ascoli U19 remain a technically accomplished side, but this defeat underlines the importance of converting possession into clear chances at this level. Both clubs will now turn their attention to the next round, with Monopoli looking to build momentum and Ascoli eager to rediscover their attacking rhythm.
