Tactical story

Dulwich Hamlet controlled possession for large parts of the game, using their wide players to stretch Carshalton and create space in the final third. Their attacking intent was clear, but the hosts were occasionally exposed when Carshalton broke quickly. Carshalton’s willingness to press and counter made the game open and entertaining.

The late equaliser came from a set piece, an area Carshalton had targeted throughout the second half. Dulwich will feel they should have managed the closing minutes better, while Carshalton will take credit for their persistence and the quality of Vose’s finish. Both teams contributed to a match that swung one way and then the other.

Standout players

For Carshalton, Dominic Vose showed composure under pressure with the late free-kick, while Reece Beckles was rewarded for his persistence in the box. Both goalkeepers were busy and made important interventions in an end-to-end contest.

What the result means

The draw leaves both sides with something to take from the game but also a sense of what might have been. Dulwich Hamlet will be frustrated to concede so late, while Carshalton Athletic will value the character shown in coming from behind twice. In the Isthmian Premier League, points away from home are always welcome, and this performance gives Carshalton a useful platform for the fixtures ahead.
