Full-time: Hapoel Afula 2-2 Hapoel Rishon Lezion

Hapoel Afula and Hapoel Rishon Lezion shared the points in a dramatic 2-2 draw in the Israel Leumit League on October 2, 2026, at the Afula Municipal Stadium. A late equaliser rescued a point for Afula, capping a match that featured momentum swings, missed chances, and plenty of end-to-end action.

Match overview

Hapoel Rishon Lezion started the stronger side, pressing aggressively and forcing Afula into early errors. Their reward came inside the first 15 minutes when a well-worked move opened up the home defence. Afula responded well, gradually settling into the game and finding space in wide areas, but they had to wait until the end of the first half to equalise.

The second half was a different story. Rishon Lezion regained the lead just after the hour mark, and for a while they looked capable of seeing the game out. Afula, however, kept pushing forward and were rewarded with a late goal that sent the home supporters into raptures. Neither side could find a fifth goal in a breathless finale.

Key moments

• 12th minute – Rishon Lezion take the lead: A slide-rule pass split the Afula defence, and Yaniv Mizrahi finished confidently at the near post.
• 39th minute – Afula equalise: After a spell of pressure, Afula's midfielder arrived late in the box to convert a cut-back from the left.
• 61st minute – Rishon Lezion retake the lead: A corner was only half-cleared, and a powerful strike from the edge of the box restored the visitors' advantage.
• 88th minute – Afula rescue a point: A looping cross was headed back across goal, and the Afula striker poked it home from close range.

Tactical story

Rishon Lezion used a high press in the first half, aiming to disrupt Afula's rhythm and force long balls. It worked early, but as the game progressed, Afula adapted by playing more directly and attacking the space behind Rishon's advanced full-backs. The visitors' second goal came from a set piece, highlighting their threat from dead balls.

Afula's response was built on width and persistence. They pushed their wingers higher and overloaded the penalty area with crosses. The late equaliser was no accident; Afula had been building pressure for several minutes and finally found a way through a tiring Rishon Lezion defence.

Standout players

Yaniv Mizrahi was lively throughout for Hapoel Rishon Lezion, scoring the opener and linking play intelligently. Afula's captain led by example in midfield, driving forward and never letting the home side's intensity drop. The Afula substitute who provided the late assist also made a decisive impact, while Rishon's centre-back pairing was excellent for much of the match before finally cracking late on.

Leumit League table impact

The draw keeps Hapoel Afula in the mid-table pack, though they will be pleased with the character shown in coming from behind twice. Hapoel Rishon Lezion will feel two points slipped away after leading late, but the away point adds to their recent improved form. In the crowded Israel Leumit League standings, both teams remain within touching distance of the playoff places as the season gathers pace.
