Hapoel Kiryat Ono 2-1 Macabbi Bnei Jaljuliya: Late Push Seals Home Victory in Israel C League

Hapoel Kiryat Ono claimed a hard-fought 2-1 win over Macabbi Bnei Jaljuliya on Sunday, 18 October 2026, in the Israel C League. The hosts led twice, survived a spirited second-half response, and held on through a tense closing period to secure all three points in front of their home support.

It was a game of contrasting halves. Kiryat Ono were sharper and more purposeful before the break, moving the ball quickly and finding space between the lines. Bnei Jaljuliya improved markedly after the restart and pulled level, but the home side's response — a composed, well-worked second goal — proved to be the difference.

Kiryat Ono started with intent, pressing high and forcing their opponents into early mistakes at the back. The opening goal came after a sustained spell of possession, when a clever reverse pass opened up the right side of the penalty area and the cut-back was converted clinically at the near post.

Key Moments

The hosts' opener arrived in the 21st minute through Dor Azulay, who timed his run into the box perfectly and finished first-time. It was the reward for a bright opening in which Kiryat Ono had already forced two corners and a smart save from the visiting goalkeeper.

Macabbi Bnei Jaljuliya responded well, though, and equalised ten minutes into the second half. A free-kick from the left was only partially cleared, and after a scramble in the box the ball fell to Avi Malka, who drove it through a crowd of bodies and into the net. The visiting bench erupted, and for a while it looked as though the momentum had swung decisively.

Instead, Kiryat Ono regrouped quickly. In the 72nd minute, a patient move down the left ended with a low cross that was turned in by Itay Cohen at the back post. The goal restored the home lead and drained much of the energy from the visitors' revival.

Bnei Jaljuliya threw bodies forward in the final ten minutes and had a strong penalty appeal waved away after a challenge in the area. Goalkeeper Omri Shaked, who had been largely untroubled before the interval, made two important claims from set pieces to protect the result.

Tactical Story

Kiryat Ono's 4-3-3 caused problems throughout the first half. Their wide forwards stayed high and narrow, pinning the visitors' full-backs and creating room for the midfielders to advance. The interplay between the number ten and the striker was particularly effective, and it produced the opening goal.

Bnei Jaljuliya adjusted at half-time, switching to a more direct approach and pressing higher up the pitch. That change earned them the equaliser and briefly put Kiryat Ono on the back foot. However, the home side's decision to slow the tempo after conceding — keeping the ball in midfield rather than chasing an immediate response — showed maturity and allowed them to regain control.

The decisive tactical detail was the substitution that added fresh pace on the left flank shortly before the second goal. It stretched the visitors' back line at exactly the moment they were beginning to tire.

Standout Performers

Dor Azulay was the game's outstanding attacker, combining intelligent movement with a clinical finish and drawing several fouls in dangerous areas. Itay Cohen deserves credit for the winning goal and for his tireless work off the ball down the flank.

For Macabbi Bnei Jaljuliya, Avi Malka was the clear bright spot, driving the midfield and scoring the equaliser. Their goalkeeper also made a handful of sharp saves that kept the scoreline respectable during the first-half onslaught. In defence, though, the visitors were repeatedly exposed by quick combinations in the channels.

What It Means for the Table

The victory strengthens Hapoel Kiryat Ono's position in the Israel C League and continues their encouraging home form. Winning matches in which they are not at their best is often the mark of a side capable of pushing towards the upper half of the table, and the manner of this result will please the coaching staff.

Macabbi Bnei Jaljuliya leave with nothing despite a much-improved second half. Their ability to compete is not in question, but conceding goals at key moments has been a recurring issue, and it cost them again here. Both teams now look ahead to their next fixtures, with Kiryat Ono ai
