MS Jerusalem edged past Maccabi Yavne 1-0 in a tightly contested Israel B League clash on Friday. A single second-half goal was enough to separate the sides in a match that was short on clear-cut chances but high on intensity.

Match Overview

The first half was a cagey affair, with both teams struggling to find rhythm on a bumpy pitch. MS Jerusalem saw more of the ball but were frustrated by a well-organized Maccabi Yavne defense that sat deep and looked to counter. The breakthrough came in the 67th minute when a corner from the right was only partially cleared, and midfielder Yonatan Cohen fired a low shot through a crowded penalty area and into the net.

Maccabi Yavne pushed forward in search of an equalizer, but MS Jerusalem's back four held firm. The visitors' best opportunity fell to striker Roee Ben Shimon in the 84th minute, but his header from six yards out sailed over the bar. In the end, the home side managed the game professionally to secure a valuable three points.

Key Moments

• 67' – Yonatan Cohen scores the only goal with a drilled effort from the edge of the box.
• 84' – Roee Ben Shimon misses a golden chance to equalize for Maccabi Yavne.
• 90+3' – MS Jerusalem goalkeeper Itai Zaken makes a crucial save to deny a late free-kick.

Tactical Story

MS Jerusalem set up in a 4-3-3, looking to dominate possession through the middle. Maccabi Yavne responded with a 4-4-2 that prioritized defensive solidity. The game was decided by fine margins: Jerusalem's persistence paid off from a set-piece, while Yavne's lack of cutting edge in the final third proved costly. The home team's midfield trio worked tirelessly to win the ball back and launch quick attacks.

Standout Players

Yonatan Cohen was the hero, not just for his goal but for his all-round display in midfield. Defender Amir Levi was a rock at the back for MS Jerusalem, winning every aerial duel. For Maccabi Yavne, goalkeeper David Azulay kept his team in the game with a string of fine saves before the goal.

League Table Impact

The win lifts MS Jerusalem into the promotion playoff places, while Maccabi Yavne remain in mid-table. With the season still young, both teams will know the importance of consistency in this unpredictable division. MS Jerusalem will look to build on this result, while Yavne must regroup quickly.
