Paykan 1-1 Shams Azar Qazvin: Points Shared in Iran Pro League Contest

Paykan and Shams Azar Qazvin shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw in the Iran Pro League on 10 October 2026, a 21:30 kick-off that offered both sides moments of encouragement and frustration. Paykan struck first, but Shams Azar Qazvin responded with a well-worked equaliser, and neither team could find a winner in the closing stages.

Match Overview

Paykan began the match on the front foot, pressing high and moving the ball quickly through midfield. Their early dominance was rewarded with the opening goal, and for a period they looked capable of taking full control. However, Shams Azar Qazvin gradually settled into the game, tightened their defensive shape, and began to find space between the lines.

The equaliser arrived after the break, shifting the momentum of the contest. Both teams had chances to win it, with Paykan pushing forward late and Shams Azar looking dangerous on the counter-attack. In the end, a draw was a fair result, reflecting the balance of play and the defensive efforts of both sides.

Key Moments

• 23rd minute: Paykan took the lead through Mehdi Zare, who finished low into the corner after a neat exchange on the edge of the box.
• 41st minute: Shams Azar Qazvin went close with a header from a corner, but the effort sailed just over the bar.
• 63rd minute: Shams Azar equalised when Reza Asadi rose highest to meet a cross and powered a header past the goalkeeper.
• 80th minute: Paykan nearly regained the lead, forcing a fine save from the Shams Azar goalkeeper with a curling shot.
• 90+2nd minute: Shams Azar had a late break, but the final shot was blocked by a last-ditch defensive challenge.

Tactical Story

Paykan set up in a 4-2-3-1, looking to control the midfield and feed their attacking midfielder between the lines. They succeeded in the first half, creating overloads on the flanks and winning several corners. However, as the game progressed, their intensity dropped slightly, allowing Shams Azar Qazvin to gain a foothold.

Shams Azar Qazvin used a 4-4-2 formation that became a 4-5-1 out of possession. Their midfielders worked hard to block passing lanes, and their equaliser came from a set-piece routine that Paykan failed to defend. Both teams showed tactical discipline, but neither could produce the moment of quality needed to secure all three points.

Standout Performers

Mehdi Zare was Paykan’s most dangerous player, scoring the opener and linking play effectively. Reza Asadi was Shams Azar Qazvin’s standout, not only for his equalising goal but also for his work rate in midfield. Both goalkeepers made important saves, especially in the second half, ensuring the match ended level.

Table Impact and What’s Next

The draw keeps both clubs moving in the Iran Pro League standings, though each will feel they could have taken more from the game. Paykan remain a difficult side to beat at home, while Shams Azar Qazvin will take confidence from their away performance. Both teams now look ahead to their next fixtures, hoping to convert draws into wins as the season progresses.
