Esteghlal Khozestan secured a controlled 2-0 home victory over Shams Azar Qazvin in the Iran Pro League on Sunday evening. Goals in either half gave the hosts a deserved win and lifted them into a more comfortable position in the early-season standings.

Match overview

Esteghlal Khozestan started with purpose and dictated the tempo from midfield. Shams Azar Qazvin defended in numbers but struggled to keep possession for long periods, and the pressure eventually told. The home side added a second goal after the break and managed the closing stages with maturity.

Key moments

• 34th minute: Esteghlal Khozestan broke the deadlock with a well-worked move. A short pass into the box was laid off for a teammate, who finished low past the goalkeeper.
• Half-time: Shams Azar Qazvin made changes to try to press higher, but the adjustment left more space behind their defence.
• 71st minute: The hosts doubled their lead from a corner. The initial header was blocked, but the rebound was forced over the line after a scramble.
• Late save: The Esteghlal goalkeeper preserved the clean sheet with a strong stop in the final minutes.

Tactical story

Esteghlal Khozestan's midfield trio controlled the central areas and repeatedly switched play to create overloads on the flanks. Shams Azar Qazvin tried to stay compact, but their clearances were often intercepted, allowing the hosts to sustain pressure. The second goal gave Esteghlal Khozestan the cushion they needed, and from there they slowed the game down and protected their lead.

Standout performers

The home side's attacking midfielder was at the heart of most good moves, linking play and finding pockets of space. The central defenders were also solid, winning aerial duels and limiting Shams Azar Qazvin to very few clear chances. For the visitors, the goalkeeper made several saves and kept the score respectable, but the team lacked a consistent outlet in attack.

What it means for the table

The win gives Esteghlal Khozestan momentum and another important home result. In a competitive Iran Pro League table, taking maximum points from matches against direct rivals is essential, and this performance showed both control and patience. Shams Azar Qazvin, meanwhile, will need to find more creativity in away games if they are to climb the standings.
