Wexford Youths Women produced a commanding 4-0 win over Waterford United (W) in the Ireland Women's League at Ferrycarrig Park on 25 October 2026. A dominant first-half display set the tone, and Wexford added two more goals after the break to secure a convincing three points.

Match overview

Wexford started brightly and took the lead inside the opening quarter of an hour, settling any early nerves. Their pressing forced Waterford into mistakes, and a second goal arrived before half-time. Waterford tried to respond after the break, but Wexford's control of midfield and superior movement in the final third proved too much. Two further goals in the second half completed a comprehensive victory.

Key moments

• 13 minutes: Wexford opened the scoring with a calm finish after a neat passing move opened up the Waterford defence.
• 34 minutes: The lead was doubled when a cross from the right was converted at the back post.
• 57 minutes: Wexford added a third after winning the ball high up the pitch and finishing quickly.
• 82 minutes: The scoring was completed with a close-range finish following a corner.

Tactical story

Wexford's high press was a key feature of the match, forcing Waterford to play long balls and concede possession in dangerous areas. The home side used width well, with their full-backs pushing high and the wingers stretching the defence. Waterford struggled to build rhythm and were often crowded out in midfield. When they did get forward, Wexford's centre-backs dealt comfortably with the danger. It was a mature, controlled performance from the hosts.

Standout performers

Wexford's forward line was relentless, with the striker scoring twice and constantly troubling the Waterford back four. The midfield duo controlled the tempo and won most of the second balls. Defensively, Wexford were solid and rarely looked like conceding. For Waterford, the goalkeeper made several saves to prevent the scoreline from becoming even more one-sided, while their captain tried to drive the team forward from midfield.

What the result means

The win strengthens Wexford Youths Women's position in the Ireland Women's League table and gives them confidence for the remainder of the season. Waterford United (W), meanwhile, will need to regroup quickly after a difficult afternoon. Wexford's attacking display will please the coaching staff, but the clean sheet will be just as satisfying. With three points secured, they can now look ahead to their next fixture with momentum on their side.
