Wayside Celtic and Inchicore Athletic FC produced one of the most entertaining matches of the Leinster Senior League weekend, playing out a breathless 3-3 draw on Saturday, October 17, 2026. Six goals, momentum swings, and a late equaliser made this a classic example of what makes the league so competitive.

First half sets up a classic

Wayside Celtic began brightly and looked the more dangerous side in the early stages. They moved the ball quickly through midfield, got their wingers into one-on-one situations, and created the first clear chances. Inchicore Athletic FC weathered the early pressure, though, and gradually found their footing.

The opening goal came from a period of Wayside pressure, but Inchicore responded well. The game became stretched, with both teams committing numbers forward and leaving space in behind. By half-time, the contest had already taken on the feel of a match that would not be decided easily.

Second half swings and late drama

Wayside Celtic moved into a 3-1 lead after the break, and at that point they looked likely to take all three points. Their attacking play was direct and effective, and Inchicore Athletic appeared to be running out of ideas. But the visitors refused to fold, pulling a goal back and setting up a tense finale.

With the game entering its final stages, Inchicore Athletic pushed more players forward. They won set-pieces, delivered dangerous crosses, and finally found the equaliser. The late goal capped a remarkable comeback and left Wayside Celtic to reflect on two dropped points after controlling large parts of the match.

Key moments

• Wayside breakthrough: The home side opened the scoring after a sustained spell of pressure.
• Inchicore response: The visitors stayed in the game with a well-taken goal before the break.
• Wayside’s 3-1 lead: Two quick goals in the second half put Wayside in command.
• Inchicore fightback: A second goal gave the visitors hope, and a late equaliser completed the 3-3 draw.

Tactical story: width, set-pieces, and transitions

Wayside Celtic’s best moments came through width. Their wide players stretched the Inchicore defence, and their midfield runners caused problems with late arrivals in the box. Inchicore, meanwhile, grew into the game by using set-pieces and direct play to put pressure on the Wayside back line.

Transitions were crucial. Both teams looked vulnerable when they lost the ball in advanced areas, and the match became a series of quick attacks rather than a controlled possession battle. That openness was great for neutrals and frustrating for the coaches, but it produced a thoroughly absorbing Leinster Senior League result.

League table impact and standout performers

Both sides take a point from the draw, which keeps them moving in a tightly packed section of the Leinster Senior League standings. Wayside Celtic will feel they should have closed the game out, while Inchicore Athletic FC will take confidence from their resilience and never-say-die attitude.

The standout performers included Wayside’s creative midfielders and Inchicore’s forward line, which kept battling even when the game seemed to be slipping away. The 3-3 scoreline adds another memorable chapter to the head-to-head record between the clubs and underlines how unpredictable the Leinster Senior League can be.
