Kadhimiya SC and Masafi Al-Shamal SC played out a 0-0 draw in the Iraq Premier Division on Friday, October 2, 2026. The scoreline told the story of a match low on clear-cut chances but high on tactical discipline, with both defences coming out on top.

The goalless result gives each side a point in the Iraq Premier Division standings. For Kadhimiya SC, it was a night of frustration in the final third; for Masafi Al-Shamal SC, it was a solid away performance built on organisation and resilience.

Match Overview

Kadhimiya SC saw more of the ball in the first half, trying to build patiently from the back and find spaces between the lines. Masafi Al-Shamal SC responded with a compact defensive block, limiting central penetration and forcing the hosts into wide areas. Crosses were dealt with comfortably by the visiting centre-backs.

The second half followed a similar pattern. Kadhimiya pushed higher up the pitch in search of a winner, but Masafi Al-Shamal remained disciplined. The visitors looked to counter when possible, though they were also cautious about committing too many players forward.

Key Moments

• 14th minute: Kadhimiya SC created the first chance of the match with a shot from the edge of the box, but the goalkeeper saved comfortably.
• 37th minute: Masafi Al-Shamal SC had a rare opening on the break, but the final pass was overhit and the chance disappeared.
• 58th minute: Kadhimiya’s best moment came from a corner, but a powerful header went just over the bar.
• 76th minute: Masafi Al-Shamal’s goalkeeper produced a strong save to deny a low drive from distance.
• 88th minute: Kadhimiya appealed for a penalty after a challenge in the box, but the referee waved play on.

Tactical Story

Kadhimiya SC’s main issue was a lack of speed in their build-up. They moved the ball well from side to side but struggled to break down a well-drilled Masafi Al-Shamal defence. Their midfielders found little room between the lines, and the front players were often isolated against two centre-backs.

Masafi Al-Shamal SC executed their game plan effectively. They defended deep, stayed compact, and relied on quick counters. While they did not create many chances, they restricted Kadhimiya to mostly speculative efforts. The draw was a fair reflection of a match where both teams cancelled each other out.

Standout Performers

Masafi Al-Shamal SC’s goalkeeper was the standout player, making important saves in the second half and commanding his area with confidence. The centre-back pairing was also excellent, winning headers and blocking shots. In midfield, the defensive screen worked tirelessly to protect the back four.

For Kadhimiya SC, the left-back was a bright spark, pushing forward and delivering several dangerous crosses. The central midfielder tried to dictate the tempo, but the team lacked a finishing touch. The captain led by example with a committed defensive display.

What It Means

A point apiece keeps both teams moving in the Iraq Premier Division, though they may feel it was two dropped rather than one gained. Kadhimiya SC will need to find more creativity in attack if they are to climb the table, while Masafi Al-Shamal SC can take encouragement from a clean sheet away from home.

The head-to-head record remains tight after this stalemate. For Kadhimiya, the focus will be on turning possession into goals in the next fixture. For Masafi Al-Shamal, the challenge is to build on a defensively solid performance and add more threat in the final third.
