Al Fahad and Al Ramadi played out a tense 0-0 draw in the Iraq Premier Division on Saturday evening at Al Fahad Stadium, a result that leaves both sides still searching for a breakthrough in the early weeks of the 2026-27 season.

Match Overview

With the match kicking off at 20:45 local time, Al Fahad started as slight favourites on home turf, but they found Al Ramadi a stubborn and well-organised opponent. The visitors arrived with a clear plan to frustrate and counter, and it worked almost to perfection as they earned a hard-fought away point. The goalless scoreline suggests a dull affair, but there was plenty of tension, a disallowed goal, and several important saves that kept the crowd engaged until the final whistle.

Key Moments

• 12th minute: Al Fahad's first real chance fell to striker Ali Hussein, whose low shot from the edge of the box was tipped around the post by Al Ramadi goalkeeper Omar Al-Dulaimi.
• 34th minute: Al Ramadi responded with a free kick from Hassan Jabbar that sailed just over the crossbar.
• 58th minute: The biggest controversy of the night came when Al Fahad thought they had taken the lead through a close-range finish, but the goal was ruled out for offside after a lengthy consultation.
• 82nd minute: Al Ramadi nearly snatched all three points on the break, but a last-ditch block from Al Fahad captain Mustafa Kareem denied them.

Tactical Story

Al Fahad lined up in a 4-2-3-1 formation, looking to dominate possession and create chances through the middle. However, Al Ramadi's 5-3-2 defensive block proved difficult to break down, with the back five sitting deep and the midfield trio working tirelessly to close down passing lanes. Al Fahad's full-backs pushed high, but crosses into the box were repeatedly cleared by the towering Al Ramadi centre-backs. The home side's best moments came from set pieces, but they lacked the final touch.

Standout Players

Al Ramadi goalkeeper Omar Al-Dulaimi was the undisputed man of the match, making three crucial saves and commanding his area with confidence. For Al Fahad, centre-back Mustafa Kareem was excellent, reading the game well and snuffing out several counter-attacks. In midfield, Al Fahad's Karim Salih worked tirelessly, but he was often outnumbered by the compact Al Ramadi rearguard.

Season Impact

The draw leaves Al Fahad with five points from their opening four matches, while Al Ramadi have four points. Both teams remain in the lower half of the Iraq Premier Division table, and the result highlights the need for more attacking potency if either side is to climb towards the top six. Al Fahad will be particularly frustrated, having now drawn two of their last three home games without scoring. Al Ramadi, meanwhile, will take confidence from a disciplined away performance and a second clean sheet of the campaign.
