Italy began brightly, dominating possession and looking to play through Ukraine’s midfield with quick combinations. Their early pressure produced the opening goal, a neat finish after a smart run between the centre-backs. Tactical Story

Italy U17 played with a controlled 4-2-3-1, using their double pivot to circulate the ball and their wide players to stretch Ukraine’s defence. Their most dangerous attacks came when the No. 10 found space between the lines. Without the ball, Italy pressed in short bursts rather than constantly, conserving energy for their attacking phases.

Ukraine U17 set up in a compact 4-4-2 and looked to win the ball in midfield before attacking quickly through the channels. Their two goals came from different routes: one from open play and one from a set piece. The Ukrainians struggled at times with Italy’s movement in central areas, but their resilience and tactical discipline kept them in the game until the end.

Standout Players

Italy’s striker was the standout performer, involved in two goals and constantly troubling Ukraine’s back line. Their attacking midfielder dictated the pace and found pockets of space throughout. For Ukraine U17, the captain in midfield drove the team forward, and the winger who scored the first goal was a constant outlet on the break.

What It Means

For Italy U17, the 3-2 win is a strong result against a determined opponent. It highlights the squad’s attacking depth and its ability to score in different ways, from open play and counters to set pieces. For Ukraine U17, the defeat will sting, but the performance showed attacking quality and fighting spirit. Both teams will take valuable lessons into their next international window, with coaches able to review defensive transitions and game management under pressure.

At U17 level, results are only part of the story. Development, decision-making, and experience in tight matches matter just as much. This five-goal friendly delivered all three, making it a worthwhile exercise for both nations.
