Dempo secured a convincing 2-0 victory over Sporting Clube de Goa in an International Club Friendly on October 3, 2026, in a match that served as a preseason tune-up for both Goan clubs.

Match Overview

The friendly clash between Sporting Clube de Goa and Dempo ended 2-0 in favor of Dempo, who showed superior sharpness in front of goal. Played at Sporting's home ground, the match was a competitive affair despite its friendly status, with both teams eager to impress. Dempo took control early and never looked back, scoring once in each half to secure the win.

Key Moments

Dempo broke the deadlock in the 23rd minute when their striker latched onto a through ball, rounded the goalkeeper, and calmly slotted into an empty net. Sporting Clube de Goa tried to respond, but their attacks were often snuffed out by Dempo's well-organized defense. The visitors doubled their lead in the 67th minute when a corner kick was headed home by their center-back, who rose highest at the near post.

Sporting Clube de Goa had their moments, particularly in the second half when they hit the post from a free-kick and forced a fine save from Dempo's goalkeeper. However, they lacked the cutting edge to get back into the game. Dempo managed the closing stages professionally, keeping possession and limiting their opponents' chances.

Tactical Story

Dempo lined up in a 4-3-3 formation, focusing on quick transitions and pressing high up the pitch. Their midfield trio controlled the game, winning the ball back quickly and feeding their forwards. Sporting Clube de Goa, playing a 4-2-3-1, struggled to cope with Dempo's intensity. They were often forced into sideways passes and long balls, which were easily dealt with by Dempo's defense. Sporting's manager made several changes in the second half, but the pattern of the game remained the same.

Standout Players

Dempo's striker was a constant threat, scoring the opener and causing problems with his movement. His pace and finishing were too much for Sporting's defense. Dempo's center-back was also excellent, not only scoring the second goal but also making several crucial tackles and interceptions. For Sporting Clube de Goa, their goalkeeper made a few good saves to keep the score respectable, while their left winger showed flashes of skill but lacked end product.

What It Means for the Season Ahead

As a friendly, the result will not affect any league standings, but it provides valuable preparation for both teams. Dempo will be encouraged by their clinical performance and defensive solidity, while Sporting Clube de Goa will need to work on their attacking cohesion and defensive concentration. The match also served as a good test for younger players on both sides, with several substitutes getting valuable minutes. Both clubs will continue their preseason schedules with renewed focus.
