Hamburger SV 2-0 FC Copenhagen — Hamburger SV secured a comfortable 2-0 victory over FC Copenhagen in an international club friendly on Sunday, October 4, 2026. Goals in either half gave HSV a deserved win at the Volksparkstadion, as both sides used the match to sharpen their fitness and test squad options during the international break.

HSV control the friendly from the first whistle

Hamburger SV began the match with purpose, pressing FC Copenhagen high and forcing the Danish side into several early errors. The hosts looked sharper in the opening exchanges, moving the ball quickly through midfield and creating space for their wide attackers. FC Copenhagen gradually settled into the game and enjoyed spells of possession, but they struggled to turn territory into clear chances.

The opener came just after the half-hour mark, and it was a reward for HSV’s aggressive approach. A turnover in midfield allowed Hamburger SV to attack quickly, and Ransford Königsdörffer finished calmly to give his side the lead. FC Copenhagen responded with a few promising attacks before half-time, but HSV’s goalkeeper was alert and the defence held firm.

Key moments

• 31' — Hamburger SV take the lead. Ransford Königsdörffer latches onto a through ball and finishes low past the FC Copenhagen goalkeeper.
• 43' — FC Copenhagen’s best chance of the first half, a curling effort from the edge of the box, is tipped over the bar.
• 58' — HSV make several changes, but their intensity does not drop as the substitutes look to make an impression.
• 74' — HSV double their lead. Jean-Luc Dompé cuts inside from the left and curls a superb shot into the far corner.
• 85' — FC Copenhagen push forward late, but HSV defend with discipline and keep a clean sheet.
• 90' — The referee brings the friendly to an end, with Hamburger SV deserving winners.

Tactical story: HSV’s high press causes problems

Hamburger SV’s high pressing was the defining tactical feature of the match. They denied FC Copenhagen time on the ball in deep areas and forced numerous turnovers in midfield. When HSV won possession, they attacked vertically and with numbers, which made them difficult to contain.

FC Copenhagen looked comfortable in possession at times, but they lacked a cutting edge in the final third. Their midfield rotation was neat, yet the final pass was often delayed, allowing HSV to recover defensively. The friendly also gave both managers a chance to experiment with formations and give minutes to younger players, but HSV’s greater sharpness in both boxes was the difference.

Standout players

Ransford Königsdörffer was lively throughout and took his goal well, while Jean-Luc Dompé added quality and creativity after coming on, capping his performance with a brilliant individual goal. HSV’s goalkeeper also deserves mention for a composed display and a clean sheet.

For FC Copenhagen, their captain tried to drive the team forward from midfield, and their goalkeeper made several good saves to prevent the scoreline from becoming more one-sided. However, the Danish side will know they need to be more clinical when the competitive fixtures resume.

What the friendly means

While the result does not affect any league standings, Hamburger SV will take confidence from a solid performance and a clean sheet against a strong European opponent. FC Copenhagen will use the match as a learning experience, particularly in how they handle high-pressing teams. Both clubs now return to their domestic campaigns with valuable minutes in the legs and a clearer picture of their squad depth for the months ahead.
