Match Overview

Key Moments

• 15' – Shakhtar take the lead: A slick passing sequence opened up the defence and the striker finished low.
• 40' – Shakhtar double the advantage: The right winger cut inside and curled a beautiful shot into the far corner.
• 70' – Shakhtar make it three: A rapid counter-attack ended with a tap-in at the back post.

Tactical Analysis

Shakhtar lined up in a 4-2-3-1 and controlled the game with their trademark possession-based approach. Their midfielders constantly rotated, creating passing lanes and pulling the Kryvbas defence out of shape. The full-backs pushed high, providing width and allowing the wingers to drift inside. Kryvbas defended deep in a 5-4-1, but their lack of pressure on the ball allowed Shakhtar to build rhythm. When Kryvbas did win possession, they were quickly closed down, and Shakhtar's counter-press was effective.

Standout Performers

Shakhtar's playmaker was the orchestrator, dictating the tempo and providing two assists with incisive passes. The right winger was a constant menace, scoring a spectacular goal and stretching the defence. Up front, the striker linked play well and got his reward with the opening goal. For Kryvbas, their goalkeeper made several saves to prevent a heavier defeat, and their captain showed leadership in a difficult match.

What It Means

The friendly served as an ideal preparation match for Shakhtar Donetsk, allowing them to fine-tune their attacking patterns and build confidence ahead of their upcoming competitive fixtures. Kryvbas will take valuable lessons from facing a high-calibre opponent, particularly in how to defend against quick combination play. Both sides will now refocus on their league objectives.
