Barnet 1-2 Oxford United: U's Edge Tense Friendly at The Hive

July 25, 2026 – The Hive Stadium – Oxford United edged out National League side Barnet 2-1 in a closely contested pre-season friendly. The League One visitors had to come from behind after falling behind early, showing character to turn the match around.

Barnet stunned Oxford with a goal in the 12th minute when Idris Kanu capitalised on a defensive mix-up and finished calmly. The Bees held their lead for much of the first half, but Oxford grew into the game. The equaliser arrived just before the break when Mark Harris poked home from a corner after a goalmouth scramble.

The second half was a more measured affair, with both sides making numerous substitutions. Oxford’s winner came in the 67th minute through Ruben Rodrigues, who collected a pass on the edge of the box and drilled a low shot into the bottom corner. Barnet pushed for a late leveller but Oxford held firm.

Barnet: The National League side gave a good account of themselves and will take positives from the performance, especially the early pressure.
