Apollon Limassol LFC Women delivered a dominant 5-0 victory over city rivals Aris Limassol Women in an International Club Friendly on 26 September 2026. The match, played at the Apollon Training Centre, served as a final tune-up before the domestic season, and the hosts looked sharp in every department.

Match Overview

Despite the friendly status, the Limassol derby carried real edge, with both sets of players eager to claim local bragging rights. Apollon started on the front foot, pressing aggressively and moving the ball quickly through midfield. Aris struggled to cope with the intensity, frequently surrendering possession in their own half. The visitors did have brief moments on the counter, but Apollon’s defence remained resolute, and the scoreline reflected their complete control.

Key Moments

• 8th minute – Apollon open the scoring: Eleni Georgiou latched onto a clever through ball and slotted calmly past the goalkeeper.
• 23rd minute – Georgiou doubles the lead: A sweeping team move ended with Maria Ioannou crossing for Georgiou to tap in at the back post.
• 41st minute – Third goal before half-time: Andriana Christou curled a shot into the top corner from the edge of the area.
• 55th minute – Georgiou completes her hat-trick: The striker won the ball back high up the pitch and finished with a low drive.
• 78th minute – Ioannou adds a fifth: A late corner was only half-cleared, and Ioannou volleyed home from 12 yards.

Tactical Story

Apollon lined up in a fluid 4-3-3, with the front three interchanging positions and causing chaos for Aris’s back line. The midfield trio dominated the central areas, winning second balls and launching quick attacks. Aris attempted to sit deep and absorb pressure, but their defensive shape was repeatedly pulled apart by Apollon’s movement. The hosts’ high press was particularly effective, forcing errors that led directly to two goals. In the second half, Apollon managed the game intelligently, keeping possession and limiting Aris to speculative shots from distance.

Standout Players

Eleni Georgiou was the undisputed star of the show, scoring a hat-trick and linking play beautifully. Maria Ioannou was a constant threat on the wing, contributing a goal and an assist. Andriana Christou controlled the midfield with composure and creativity. For Aris, goalkeeper Christina Pavlou made several stops to prevent an even heavier defeat, while captain Elena Dimitriou worked tirelessly but received little support.

What the Result Means

Although the match was a friendly, the 5-0 scoreline sends a clear message about Apollon Limassol LFC Women’s readiness for the upcoming campaign. It also extends their unbeaten run in pre-season and gives them a psychological edge over their city rivals. Aris Limassol Women will need to regroup quickly, addressing their defensive organisation and transition play. The two sides are scheduled to meet again in the league, where the stakes will be even higher. For now, Apollon can enjoy a comprehensive derby victory and the confidence that comes with it.
