Nongkseh SCC 4-2 Sawmer: Clinical Hosts Seal Thrilling Shillong Premier League Victory

Nongkseh SCC delivered a statement performance in the Indian Shillong Premier League on 13 October 2026, defeating Sawmer 4-2 in a six-goal thriller at the MFA Turf Ground. The hosts were sharp, ruthless, and ultimately deserved winners, moving into the top half of the standings while leaving Sawmer to reflect on a night of defensive frustration.

Played under the lights in Shillong, the match kicked off at 17:15 local time and immediately set a high tempo. Nongkseh’s attacking intent was clear from the first whistle, and by the time the full-time whistle blew, they had produced one of the most entertaining scorelines of the Shillong Premier League season so far.

Match Overview

Nongkseh SCC came into the fixture looking to build momentum after a mixed start to their campaign, while Sawmer were desperate for points to climb away from the lower reaches of the table. The home side lined up in a 4-3-3 formation, with their wide forwards instructed to stretch Sawmer’s back four at every opportunity. Sawmer, by contrast, set up in a 4-2-3-1, hoping to absorb pressure and hit on the counter-attack.

For long spells, that plan worked – but only in patches. Nongkseh’s pressing was relentless, and Sawmer struggled to string together more than a few passes in the attacking third. The scoreline of 4-2 flattered the visitors slightly, but it also underlined their resilience, as they twice dragged themselves back into the contest before Nongkseh finally put the game beyond reach.

• 88’ – Goal! Nongkseh SCC 4-2 Sawmer: Donborlang Kharsyntiew sealed the win with a brilliant individual effort, curling the ball into the far corner from the edge of the box.

The half-time score of 2-1 was a fair reflection of Nongkseh’s dominance, but Sawmer’s penalty had kept them in touch. The second half was more open, and the sixth goal of the night arrived just as Sawmer began to believe they could snatch an unlikely point.

Tactical Story

Nongkseh’s 4-3-3 was built around quick transitions and overlapping full-backs. Their midfield trio pressed high, forcing Sawmer into rushed clearances that were often recycled straight back into the final third. The hosts also exploited the space behind Sawmer’s full-backs, with Lyngdoh and Marbaniang constantly drifting inside to create overloads.

Sawmer’s 4-2-3-1 relied on disciplined defensive lines and quick breaks. For 20-minute spells, especially after their equaliser, they looked dangerous on the counter. But their inability to track runners from midfield proved costly, and Nongkseh’s third goal – a direct result of a turnover in the middle third – was the perfect example of their tactical superiority on the night.

Defensively, Nongkseh were not perfect. They conceded twice and allowed Sawmer several half-chances from set-pieces. However, their goalkeeper produced two important saves at 3-2 to preserve the lead, and that proved decisive in the final 15 minutes.

Standout Players

Banshan Lyngdoh (Nongkseh SCC) was the undisputed man of the match. His two goals were taken with the calmness of a seasoned finisher, and his movement off the ball constantly unsettled Sawmer’s centre-backs. He now sits among the early contenders for the Shillong Premier League golden boot.

Donborlang Kharsyntiew (Nongkseh SCC) was equally influential, providing two assists and capping his performance with a superb late goal. His energy in midfield set the tone for the hosts.

For Sawmer, Kyntiewbor Khongwir was their brightest spark. He converted his penalty confidently and was always looking to drive forward. Rustom Passah also deserves credit for his persistence, which earned Sawmer their second goal and briefly gave them hope.
