Nangkiew Irat and Mawlai SC played out a tense 0-0 draw in the Indian Shillong Premier League on September 25, 2026. The match kicked off at 17:30 local time and, while there were no goals, it was far from a dull affair. Both teams created chances, defended with commitment and produced a tactical contest that underlined why the Shillong Premier League is one of the most competitive regional competitions in Indian football.

Match overview

Mawlai SC entered the game as one of the stronger sides in the league and looked to control possession from the first whistle. Nangkiew Irat, playing at home, were content to sit deeper, absorb pressure and attack through quick breaks. The result was a game of cat and mouse, with Mawlai seeing more of the ball but Nangkiew Irat carrying a genuine threat on the counter.

As the match progressed, the tension increased. Mawlai pushed more players forward in search of a winner, while Nangkiew Irat defended their penalty area with discipline and bravery. In the end, a goalless draw was a fair outcome, even if both managers would have preferred a decisive moment in front of goal.

Key moments

• 22nd minute – Mawlai SC go close: A low shot from the edge of the box forced a sharp save from the Nangkiew Irat goalkeeper.
• 54th minute – Nangkiew Irat hit the woodwork: A well-struck free-kick beat the wall but crashed against the crossbar.
• 77th minute – Mawlai SC denied: A goal was ruled out for offside after a quick attacking move, leaving the Mawlai players frustrated.
• 88th minute – Late save preserves the draw: Nangkiew Irat’s goalkeeper reacted brilliantly to tip a close-range header over the bar.

Tactical story

Mawlai SC used a patient 4-3-3, trying to draw Nangkiew Irat out of their defensive shape. Their midfielders rotated constantly, looking for passing lanes into the wide areas. But Nangkiew Irat’s 4-4-2 block remained compact, with the two banks of four staying narrow and forcing Mawlai to play around them rather than through them.

Nangkiew Irat’s plan was built on defensive discipline and fast transitions. Their best moments came when they won the ball in midfield and immediately looked for the striker or the advancing wingers. Mawlai’s centre-backs had to be alert throughout, and their composure in the final line prevented a surprise home win. The tactical battle ended level, with both sides taking a point from a hard-fought encounter.

Standout players

Nangkiew Irat’s goalkeeper was the clear man of the match, making at least three important saves and commanding his area under late pressure. The centre-back pairing also deserved credit for blocking shots and clearing dangerous crosses. For Mawlai SC, the midfield captain controlled the tempo and kept the team moving forward, while the wide players provided constant width and delivery.

Shillong Premier League impact

The point keeps Mawlai SC in a strong position in the Shillong Premier League standings, although they will be disappointed not to have converted possession into goals. Nangkiew Irat, meanwhile, will view the clean sheet as a platform to build on. In a league where home form is vital, earning a point against one of the title contenders could prove valuable by the end of the season.
