Shillong Lajong Reserves secured a commanding 2-0 victory over Langsning SC in their Shillong Premier League encounter at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on October 1, 2026. The young Lajong side produced a disciplined and clinical display, scoring in each half to claim all three points and deepen Langsning’s early-season struggles.

Match Overview

From the first whistle, Shillong Lajong Reserves imposed themselves on the game, pressing high and moving the ball quickly through midfield. Langsning SC, playing in front of their home supporters, struggled to find rhythm and were often reduced to speculative long balls. The visitors took a deserved lead in the 34th minute and doubled their advantage in the 72nd, effectively killing off any hopes of a Langsning comeback.

The match was played under the lights at a lively Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, with a modest but vocal crowd braving the evening chill. The three points lift Lajong Reserves into a more comfortable position in the Shillong Premier League table, while Langsning remain rooted near the bottom.

Tactical Story

Shillong Lajong Reserves lined up in a flexible 4-2-3-1 that morphed into a 4-3-3 when in possession. Their midfield trio pressed aggressively, forcing Langsning into turnovers in dangerous areas. The full-backs pushed high, stretching Langsning’s back four and creating overloads on the flanks. The first goal was a direct result of this width, with the right-back overlapping to deliver the assist.

Langsning SC, by contrast, looked disjointed. Their 4-4-2 formation left gaps between midfield and defence, which Lajong exploited repeatedly. Langsning’s attempts to play out from the back were hurried, and their strikers were often isolated. The sending-off late in the game only compounded their misery, as they finished with ten men.

Standout Players

Ronaldkydon Kharbuli (Shillong Lajong Reserves): The opening goalscorer was a constant threat with his late runs into the box. He also tracked back diligently, helping his midfield win the ball high up the pitch.

Batskhemlang Lamare (Shillong Lajong Reserves): The substitute made an instant impact, scoring the second goal with a calm finish. His movement off the ball stretched Langsning’s tiring defence.

Sheen Sohktung (Shillong Lajong Reserves): The goalkeeper was alert when called upon, making two crucial saves to preserve the clean sheet. His distribution was also quick and accurate, launching several counter-attacks.

Kitboklang Pale (Langsning SC): One of the few bright spots for the hosts, the striker worked tirelessly and was unlucky to hit the crossbar. He lacked support for much of the match.

Season Impact

With this 2-0 win, Shillong Lajong Reserves climb the Shillong Premier League standings, reinforcing their reputation as a competitive outfit despite being a developmental side. The three points keep them in touch with the top half and provide valuable momentum for their young squad.

For Langsning SC, the defeat leaves them with mounting concerns. They have now failed to score in their last two home matches and sit dangerously close to the relegation zone. The red card to Donboklang Lyngdoh will also mean a suspension, further testing their squad depth. Langsning will need to regroup quickly if they are to avoid a season-long battle at the bottom.

The Shillong Premier League continues to showcase the best of Meghalaya football, with Lajong Reserves’ victory serving as a reminder of the talent emerging from the club’s youth system. Langsning, meanwhile, must find answers fast before the
