Chanmari FC produced a determined second-half performance to beat Aizawl FC 2-1 in the Indian Mizoram Premier League on Tuesday, 29 September 2026. In a fiercely contested local derby played at 21:30, Aizawl FC took an early lead, but Chanmari responded before half-time and found a late winner to take all three points.

The match carried extra weight given the history between two of Mizoram’s most recognised football clubs. Aizawl FC, former champions of the I-League, went into the game looking to assert their status, while Chanmari FC arrived with the energy and organisation that has made them a dangerous opponent in the Mizoram Premier League.

Match Overview

Aizawl FC started brightly and took the lead in the 12th minute. A quick transition through midfield caught Chanmari’s defence out of shape, and a low finish into the bottom corner gave the home side an early advantage. The goal lifted the crowd and forced Chanmari to chase the game earlier than they would have liked.

Chanmari’s response was impressive. Rather than panicking, they tightened their midfield, pressed higher and began to win the ball in more advanced areas. Their equaliser arrived in the 41st minute when a clipped cross from the right was turned in at the back post, leaving the Aizawl goalkeeper with little chance.

The second half was a tense, end-to-end affair. Aizawl created half-chances through set pieces and long-range efforts, but Chanmari looked increasingly dangerous on the counter-attack. The decisive moment came in the 79th minute. After winning possession near the halfway line, Chanmari moved the ball quickly into the box, and a composed low finish beat the goalkeeper to make it 2-1.

Aizawl pushed forward in the closing stages and had one final opportunity deep into stoppage time, but a brave block from a Chanmari defender preserved the victory. The final whistle sparked celebrations among the Chanmari players, who knew they had earned a significant result in the race for momentum in the Mizoram Premier League.

Tactical Story

Aizawl FC lined up with an attacking 4-3-3, looking to use width and quick combinations in the final third. In the opening 20 minutes, that approach worked well. Their midfield found pockets of space, and the front three rotated effectively to pull Chanmari’s defenders out of position.

Chanmari FC responded with a compact 4-4-2. Their two forwards worked hard to cut off passes into Aizawl’s midfield, while the wide players dropped deeper to protect the full-backs. As the game wore on, Chanmari’s discipline became the foundation for their comeback. They absorbed pressure, won second balls and attacked with purpose when turnovers occurred.

The winning goal summed up the tactical battle. Aizawl committed bodies forward in search of a second goal, and Chanmari punished them with a direct, efficient counter-attack. It was a reminder that in derby matches, composure in transition can be just as important as possession.

Standout Performers

Chanmari’s midfield was the engine room of the comeback. Their central players covered ground tirelessly, disrupted Aizawl’s rhythm and linked defence with attack. The substitute who helped create the winner also made a clear impact, adding fresh pace against a tiring defensive line.

For Aizawl FC, the goalkeeper made important saves to keep the score level for long periods, while the captain tried to drive the team forward from midfield. The opening goalscorer was lively throughout, but Aizawl could not find a second goal despite late pressure.
