PSIM Yogyakarta U20 and Persib Bandung U20 played out a 0-0 draw in the Indonesian U20 Super League on Saturday afternoon, with a saved penalty and a series of late saves ensuring the points were shared. Persib controlled more of the ball, but PSIM’s defensive organization and goalkeeping kept the visitors out.

Match overview

The match began at a high tempo, with Persib Bandung U20 looking to impose themselves through midfield possession and quick switches of play. PSIM Yogyakarta U20 responded with a compact block and looked dangerous on the counter, using the pace of their wide players to stretch the Persib back line. The first half produced several promising attacks but few clear finishes.

After the break, Persib increased the pressure and won a penalty, only to be denied by a fine save. PSIM survived that scare and grew into the game again, creating a late chance of their own. In the end, neither side could find the breakthrough.

Key moments

• 21st minute: Persib’s first real chance came from a low cross, but the striker’s touch took the ball wide of the post.
• 39th minute: PSIM broke quickly and forced a save at the near post after a driving run from the left.
• 57th minute: Persib was awarded a penalty, but PSIM goalkeeper Raka Aditya guessed correctly and saved the spot-kick.
• 74th minute: PSIM’s best move of the match ended with a shot from the edge of the box that deflected over the bar.
• 89th minute: Persib sent a header toward goal from a corner, but Raka Aditya reacted well to keep it out.

Tactical story

Persib Bandung U20 played with patience, building from the back and trying to draw PSIM out of position. Their midfield rotated well, but the final pass was often delayed, allowing PSIM to recover. PSIM Yogyakarta U20, meanwhile, defended in a mid-to-low block and relied on quick transitions. Their discipline was especially impressive after conceding the penalty, as they did not panic and continued to protect the central areas.

The match also underlined the importance of goalkeeping in youth football. Both sides had spells of pressure, but the best chances came from set pieces and counters rather than sustained open-play dominance. The draw was a tactical contest as much as a physical one.

Standout performers

Raka Aditya was the hero for PSIM Yogyakarta U20, saving the penalty and making another crucial stop late on. The PSIM centre-backs also deserve praise for their positioning and communication. For Persib Bandung U20, the midfield playmaker was the most creative player on the pitch, constantly finding pockets of space and linking attacks. Their goalkeeper handled everything else comfortably and kept the game level with a strong second-half save.

What it means

In the Indonesian U20 Super League, a 0-0 draw can still be valuable. PSIM Yogyakarta U20 will take confidence from a clean sheet against a strong academy side, while Persib Bandung U20 will rue the missed penalty and the chances that followed. Both teams remain focused on development, but the competitive edge in the closing stages showed how much the result mattered.
