IR Lettir U19 delivered one of their most complete attacking performances of the season on 29 September 2026, defeating Grotta Kria U19 5-2 in an Iceland U19 League fixture that swung decisively in the home side’s favour after a tight opening half-hour. A dominant second-half display, built on quick transitions and sharp finishing, lifted IR Lettir to a morale-boosting three points and underlined their reputation as one of the division’s most entertaining young sides.

Match Overview

Played under the floodlights at IR Lettir’s home ground, the match pitted two teams with contrasting styles. IR Lettir U19 came into the game looking to impose themselves high up the pitch, while Grotta Kria U19 favoured a more patient build-up and looked to spring counter-attacks through their wide players. For long spells, the contest was more even than the final scoreline suggests, but IR Lettir’s ruthlessness in front of goal proved the difference.

The hosts opened the scoring early and never surrendered the lead after the 39th minute, though Grotta Kria twice pulled themselves back into contention. Each time, however, IR Lettir responded with another gear, eventually running out comfortable winners in a match that will be remembered for its pace, intensity, and a string of well-worked goals.

Tactical Story

IR Lettir U19 lined up in a fluid 4-3-3, with Gunnarsson dictating tempo from the base of midfield and the front three pressing aggressively. Their high line forced Grotta Kria into several hurried clearances, and the hosts consistently won the second ball in central areas. The full-backs pushed high, creating overloads on the flanks that Grotta Kria struggled to contain, especially after the hour mark.

Grotta Kria U19 had their moments, particularly in the first half when Ólafsson found space between the lines. Their 4-2-3-1 shape looked to spring Þórðarson in behind, but too often the final pass was rushed or intercepted. Defensively, they dropped deeper as the game wore on, inviting pressure, and IR Lettir’s movement in the final third proved too intricate to handle. The away side’s two goals were well taken, but they were unable to sustain possession long enough to truly threaten a comeback.

Standout Players

Aron Bjarnason (IR Lettir U19) was the undisputed man of the match, scoring twice and providing an assist. His movement off the shoulder of the last defender repeatedly stretched Grotta Kria, and his finishing was clinical. Kristófer Ingi Gunnarsson controlled the midfield with intelligent passing and relentless energy, while Elmar Örn Sigurðsson was a threat from set pieces and open play, adding the crucial second goal just before half-time.

For Grotta Kria U19, Daníel Freyr Ólafsson was the bright spark, taking his goal brilliantly and always looking to drive forward. Stefán Árni Þórðarson worked tirelessly in attack and was rewarded with a well-taken second-half goal. Goalkeeper Hákon Ingi Pétursson made several fine saves to keep the scoreline from becoming even more one-sided, though he was left exposed by his defence on multiple occasions.

Season Impact and Standings

The victory strengthens IR Lettir U19’s position in the upper half of the Iceland U19 League standings. With three wins from their last four matches, they are building real momentum and have now scored 18 goals in their last five outings. The three points move them closer to the top three, and their attacking output will give them confidence heading into a demanding run of fixtures.
