Match Overview

Competition: Hungary Women's Division 1
Date: 16 September 2026
Venue: MTK Sporttelep, Budapest
Result: MTK Hungaria FC Women 1-0 Ujpest FC Women

MTK Hungaria, one of the most successful clubs in Hungarian women's football, controlled possession from the outset but found Ujpest's deep defensive block hard to break down. The first half ended goalless, with MTK's best chances coming from set-pieces. The breakthrough arrived just after the hour mark, and from there, MTK managed the game professionally to secure all three points.

Key Moments

• 22nd minute: MTK's first clear chance — a free-kick from the left is met with a glancing header that clips the top of the crossbar.
• 41st minute: Ujpest's goalkeeper makes a smart save at her near post to deny a powerful drive from the edge of the area.
• 61st minute: MTK take the lead. A clever through ball splits the Ujpest defense, and the striker rounds the goalkeeper before slotting into an empty net.
• 78th minute: Ujpest's best opportunity — a rare counterattack ends with a shot from 18 yards that whistles just wide of the far post.
• 90th minute: MTK almost double their lead on the break, but the final shot is straight at the goalkeeper.

Tactical Story

MTK Hungaria lined up in a 4-3-3, looking to use width to stretch Ujpest's narrow midfield. Ujpest, meanwhile, sat in a compact 4-5-1, aiming to frustrate and hit on the break. The plan worked for over an hour, but MTK's persistence paid off when they finally found a gap in the defense. After taking the lead, MTK showed their experience by slowing the tempo and keeping the ball in the corners.

Ujpest's inability to keep hold of possession in the final third was their undoing. They defended bravely but lacked the creative spark to unlock a well-organized MTK backline.

Standout Players

MTK Hungaria FC Women: The goalscorer was the difference-maker, while the central midfielder controlled the game with intelligent passing. The centre-back pairing was also solid, limiting Ujpest to very few chances.

Ujpest FC Women: Their goalkeeper was excellent, making several key saves to keep the score down. The defensive midfielder also worked tirelessly to shield the back four.

Season Impact

The victory strengthens MTK Hungaria's position near the top of the Hungary Women's Division 1 standings. As a club with a rich history in the women's game, they will be aiming for the title. Ujpest FC Women remain in mid-table, but this performance showed they can compete with the league's elite. They will need to find more consistency in front of goal to climb the table.

MTK will look to build on this win in their next fixture, while Ujpest will regroup and target a return to winning ways.
