MTK Budapest U19 2-3 Budapest Honved U19: Honved Win Five-Goal Derby in Hungary U19 A League

Budapest Honved U19 produced a composed away performance to beat MTK Budapest U19 3-2 in a pulsating Hungary U19 A League derby on Saturday, 24 October 2026. The visitors twice responded to setbacks before sealing all three points with a decisive late goal, turning a tense Budapest academy contest into an important statement win.

The result adds extra spice to one of the most closely watched fixtures on the Hungarian youth calendar. MTK and Honved have long been associated with strong academy production, and this five-goal contest gave scouts and supporters a clear reminder of the attacking talent and competitive edge flowing through both clubs.

Match overview

MTK began with purpose and dictated the early rhythm, pressing high and forcing Honved into rushed clearances. The hosts were rewarded for their aggressive start when they opened the scoring inside the opening quarter-hour, finishing a flowing move that began with a turnover in midfield and ended with a low strike from the edge of the area.

Honved responded well rather than retreating. The visitors gradually found space between MTK’s midfield and defence, and their equaliser arrived before half-time after a quick transition down the right. A clipped cross into the box was met with a controlled finish, bringing the game level and changing the mood of the contest.

The second half swung repeatedly. Honved edged ahead early after the restart, capitalising on a loose ball in the final third and striking before MTK could reset. MTK, urged on by their bench, pushed numbers forward and equalised with around 20 minutes remaining, converting a period of sustained pressure with a close-range finish.

Just as the derby appeared to be heading for a draw, Honved found the winning moment. Fresh legs from the bench helped the visitors regain a foothold, and a late attacking sequence ended with a decisive finish inside the box. MTK had little time to respond, and Honved managed the closing minutes professionally to secure a 3-2 victory.

Key moments

• Early MTK breakthrough: The hosts’ high press forced a turnover and produced the opening goal, setting the tone for a fast, physical derby.
• Honved’s first response: A quick transition and measured cross brought the visitors level before half-time.
• Second-half lead: Honved punished a loose ball early in the second period to take control of the scoreboard.
• MTK’s equaliser: Sustained pressure and a close-range finish brought the home side back into the game.
• Late winner: Honved’s substitutes injected energy, and the visitors found the decisive goal in the closing stages.

Tactical story

MTK’s approach was built on intensity. Their midfield pressed aggressively, their full-backs pushed high, and their forwards looked to attack the space behind Honved’s defence. That strategy worked well in the opening exchanges, but it also left gaps that Honved began to exploit as the game wore on.

Honved adjusted by shortening their passing sequences and looking for quick switches into wide areas. Their midfield trio grew into the contest, winning second balls and ensuring the visitors were not pinned back for long spells. In possession, Honved were direct without being rushed, and their ability to answer MTK’s goals at key moments proved decisive.

The final 15 minutes highlighted the difference in game management. MTK pushed forward in search of a winner, but Honved stayed compact, defended their box with discipline, and used their bench effectively. The late goal was not merely a moment of individual quality; it was the reward for a patient, well-organised away performance.

Standout performers

Honved’s goalkeeper produced two important saves, including one strong stop in the second half when MTK were building momentum. The visitors’ central defenders also deserve credit for standing firm under late pressure, while their midfielders repeatedly turned defence into attack with sharp forward passes.

For MTK, the captain in midfield drove the team forward throughout, and the centre-forward’s link-up play caused problems for Honved’s back line. The hosts created enough chances to take something from the game, but they were ultimately undone by Honved’s ruthlessness in the decisive moments.

What the result means

The win gives Budapest Honved U19 a valuable three points in the Hungary U19 A League and strengthens their position in the upper half of the standings. For MTK Budapest U19, the defeat is a frustrating setback, but the performance showed enough attacking quality to suggest they will remain competitive in the race for a strong finish.
