Diosgyor VTK left the Ménfői úti Sporttelep with all three points on Saturday, beating Kozarmisleny SE 2-0 in the Merkantil Bank Liga. The visitors scored in each half to stay on course for the promotion places, while the home side were left to rue a lack of cutting edge in front of goal.

A Controlled Away Performance

Kozarmisleny SE went into the game with the backing of their own supporters and the intention of making life uncomfortable for one of the second division's heavyweight names. For long spells of the first half they succeeded, pressing high and forcing Diosgyor into a string of rushed clearances. But the difference between the two sides was the quality of the finishing.

The breakthrough arrived as the interval approached, and it was a goal that summed up the match. A quickly worked move through the middle pulled the home defence out of shape, and the visiting forward took advantage with a low, unerring finish. It was the sort of ruthless moment that top-end sides in the Merkantil Bank Liga produce and mid-table hosts cannot always answer.

Match at a Glance

• Fixture: Kozarmisleny SE vs Diosgyor VTK
• Competition: Merkantil Bank Liga (Hungary, second tier)
• Final score: 0-2
• Half-time scenario: Diosgyor ahead after a late first-half goal
• Key margin: Efficiency in the final third

Ten minutes after the restart, the contest was effectively settled. Diosgyor doubled their advantage with a goal built from patience on the flanks, the ball worked back across the penalty area before being converted from close range. Kozarmisleny's players appealed for a foul in the build-up, but the referee waved the protests away and the goal stood.

Where the Game Was Won

The tactical story was a familiar one in Hungarian second-tier football: territory for the home team, chances for the away team. Kozarmisleny pushed their full-backs high and committed bodies forward in search of a response, which only widened the gaps behind them. Diosgyor, comfortable sitting in a compact mid-block, looked dangerous every time they broke at speed.

Set pieces also belonged to the visitors. Several corners caused panic in the Kozarmisleny box, and only a couple of scrambled clearances kept the scoreline from growing further. The home goalkeeper made two good saves to prevent a heavier defeat, denying Diosgyor on the counter in the closing stages.

Standout Performers

Diosgyor's midfield anchored the performance, screening the back four and keeping possession ticking when the tempo needed to drop. Their central defenders dealt comfortably with the aerial barrage that Kozarmisleny produced in the final twenty minutes, winning header after header inside their own area.

For the hosts, the left-sided attacker was the most persistent threat, repeatedly taking on his marker and delivering crosses that lacked only a finishing touch. It was a display that will give the coaching staff encouragement even if the result did not.

Season Impact

Three points on the road matter enormously in the Merkantil Bank Liga, where the gap between the leading group and the chasing pack is often decided by results on difficult away days. Diosgyor VTK, a club with a proud top-flight history and a passionate following in Miskolc, keep themselves firmly in the promotion conversation with this kind of professional, low-risk victory.

Kozarmisleny SE, meanwhile, remain a committed side who are hard to break down for long stretches but short of goals at the crucial moments. Turning possession into points is the task ahead of them, and matches like this one will be studied closely by the coaching staff in the weeks to come.
