Gyulai Termal Edge Honvéd II in Five-Goal Thriller

Várfürdő Gyulai Termal FC produced a spirited comeback to defeat Kispest Honvéd II 3-2 in a pulsating Nemzeti Bajnokság III encounter on September 26, 2026. Played at the Gyulai Termál FC Sporttelep, the match swung one way and then the other before a late goal sealed all three points for the hosts in front of a vocal home crowd.

Match Overview

From the opening whistle, Gyulai Termal looked to impose themselves on the game, pressing high and forcing Honvéd II into early errors. The visitors, however, are known for their disciplined defensive structure and dangerous counter-attacks, and they weathered the early storm before taking a shock lead against the run of play. The home side responded well, equalising before half-time, but Honvéd II restored their advantage shortly after the break. Gyulai Termal then showed remarkable character to score twice in the final 20 minutes and claim a vital victory in the third tier of Hungarian football.

Key Moments

• 12th minute: Against the run of play, Honvéd II took the lead when Márk Szabó latched onto a through ball and calmly slotted past the onrushing goalkeeper.
• 34th minute: Gyulai Termal equalised through a well-worked team move. Bence Kovács found space on the edge of the box and curled a precise shot into the bottom corner.
• 58th minute: The visitors regained the lead. Levente Molnár rose highest from a corner and powered a header into the net, silencing the home supporters.
• 72nd minute: Gyulai Termal levelled again. Dávid Tóth was brought down inside the area, and Kovács stepped up to convert the penalty with confidence.
• 86th minute: The winner arrived. Substitute Ákos Varga delivered a cross from the right, and Tóth reacted quickest to poke the ball home from close range, sending the home bench into wild celebrations.

Tactical Analysis

Gyulai Termal set up in a 4-2-3-1 formation, with their full-backs pushing high to overload the flanks. This created plenty of crossing opportunities but also left them vulnerable to Honvéd II’s rapid transitions. The visitors, operating in a compact 4-4-2, looked dangerous every time they won the ball in midfield and played direct passes into the channels. However, as the game wore on, Gyulai’s superior fitness and the impact of their substitutes proved decisive. The introduction of Varga on the right wing stretched the Honvéd defence, and the winning goal came from exactly that source.

Standout Players

Bence Kovács was the standout performer for the hosts, scoring one goal and winning the penalty for the other. His movement between the lines caused Honvéd II problems all afternoon. Dávid Tóth also impressed, capping a tireless display with the late winner. For the visitors, Márk Szabó and Levente Molnár took their goals well and were a constant threat on the counter, but their defensive concentration wavered at crucial moments.

League Table Impact

The three points lift Gyulai Termal into a more comfortable position in the NB III standings, keeping them in touch with the promotion-chasing pack. For Honvéd II, the defeat is a setback in their quest to climb the table, though their performance showed plenty of promise. With the season still in its early stages, both sides will know that consistency will be key to achieving their objectives.
