Szombathelyi Haladás produced one of their most complete performances of the Nemzeti Bajnokság III campaign, dismantling Pápai Perutz 4-0 at the Haladás Sportkomplexum in a match that was effectively decided long before the closing stages. Four unanswered goals, a clean sheet and a dominant share of possession made this a statement victory for a club that carries the expectations of a much bigger fanbase than most of its divisional rivals.

Haladás set the tone inside the opening quarter of an hour and never let their opponents settle, pressing high, switching play quickly and repeatedly attacking the space behind the Perutz full-backs. By the time the visitors adjusted, the scoreline had already tilted decisively in the home side's favour.

How the match unfolded

The opening goal arrived in the 12th minute and came straight from the training ground: a short corner worked back to the edge of the box, a clipped cross towards the far post, and a firm header back across the goalkeeper. The Haladás bench barely had time to sit down again before the lead was doubled, this time from a swift turnover in midfield that turned into a three-on-two break finished low inside the near post on 34 minutes.

Pápai Perutz' best spell came immediately after the restart, when a pair of long throws and a corner briefly pinned the home side back. It lasted barely ten minutes. Haladás weathered it, then added a third on 58 minutes with a driven shot from the edge of the area after a neat lay-off. The fourth, on 79 minutes, was the pick of the bunch — a patient passing move down the left that ended with a cut-back converted from close range.

Tactical story

Haladás lined up in a flexible 4-2-3-1 that became a 3-2-5 in possession, with both full-backs pushing high and the two central midfielders rotating to cover. That structure forced Perutz into a deep, narrow block, and once the away side were pinned inside their own third they struggled to clear their lines. The hosts won the majority of second balls and recycled possession quickly, which kept the pressure constant.

Perutz' plan — a compact mid-block with quick counter-attacks through the channels — required them to survive the first 20 minutes. They did not. Once they were chasing the game, the spaces behind their midfield opened up and Haladás picked them apart with repeated switches of play.

Standout performers

• The Haladás goalkeeper had a quiet afternoon but was alert to claim two dangerous crosses in the second half, preserving the clean sheet.
• The left-sided attacker was the game's most influential figure, involved in three of the four goals and a constant outlet on the break.
• The central defensive pairing read the game well, stepping up to catch Perutz strikers offside on several occasions and snuffing out the visitors' rare counter-attacks.
• For Perutz, the goalkeeper made a string of saves that kept the margin from becoming heavier, while their captain worked tirelessly in midfield despite limited service.

What the result means

Three points and a four-goal swing give Haladás valuable momentum in the NB III standings, where goal difference can be decisive in a promotion race that so often comes down to fine margins. A result of this nature also strengthens the squad's confidence and reinforces the club's status as one of the strongest sides in the division on home soil.

For Pápai Perutz, the defeat is a reminder of the gap that still separates the division's leading group from the mid-table pack. Heavy away losses can dent morale, but the response over the next few fixtures — particularly in home matches against direct rivals — will matter far more than this single afternoon.

Up next

Haladás will look to carry this attacking rhythm into their next fixture, with the coaching staff likely to rotate carefully to manage a busy schedule. Perutz return home needing a reaction, and will focus on tightening their defensive shape and getting more bodies around their lone striker in transition.
