Puskas Akademia II and Balatonalmadi SE played out a hard-fought 1-1 draw in the Hungary Nemzeti Bajnoksag III on Sunday. The reserve side of Puskas Akademia took the lead in the first half, but Balatonalmadi responded after the break to claim a share of the points.

It was a match of contrasting styles: Puskas Akademia II, youthful and energetic, looked to press high and move the ball quickly, while Balatonalmadi SE relied on experience, compact defending and set-piece threat. In the end, neither side could find a winner, leaving both with a result that keeps them in the mid-table conversation.

Match overview

Puskas Akademia II started the brighter of the two teams, with their midfield pressing aggressively and forcing turnovers in dangerous areas. The breakthrough came in the 36th minute when Bence Kovács finished neatly after a well-worked move down the right. Balatonalmadi struggled to keep possession for long spells but remained organised and dangerous on the counter.

The second half was a different story. Balatonalmadi SE pushed their wingers higher and began to test the Puskas defence with crosses and long throws. Their pressure paid off in the 74th minute when Gergő Németh converted a penalty after a foul in the box. Both teams had late chances to win it, but the goalkeepers stood firm.

Key moments

• 36' – Puskas Akademia II 1-0: Bence Kovács arrived late in the box to side-foot home a low cross from the right.
• 52' – 1-0: Balatonalmadi’s first real chance saw a header cleared off the line.
• 74' – 1-1: Gergő Németh sent the goalkeeper the wrong way from the penalty spot after a handball decision.
• 81' – 1-1: Puskas Akademia II nearly regained the lead, but their striker hit the post from a tight angle.
• 90+3' – 1-1: A last-ditch block preserved the draw for Balatonalmadi.

Tactical story

Puskas Akademia II’s high press worked well in the first half, but it also left spaces behind their midfield line. Balatonalmadi SE gradually exploited those gaps after the interval by playing more direct passes into the channels. The penalty came from a period of sustained pressure, with the Puskas defence guilty of a rare lapse in concentration.

The home side’s younger legs were evident in transition, but their decision-making in the final third was inconsistent. Balatonalmadi, by contrast, managed the game well after equalising, slowing the tempo and taking the sting out of Puskas’s attacks. The draw was probably a fair reflection of a contest in which both teams had spells of control.

Standout players

Bence Kovács was lively for Puskas Akademia II, scoring the opening goal and linking play well. Gergő Németh was Balatonalmadi’s most influential player, scoring the equaliser and holding the ball up effectively. The Balatonalmadi goalkeeper also deserves credit for a late save that denied Puskas a winner.

What it means for the Nemzeti Bajnoksag III table

Both teams add a point to their tally in the Hungary Nemzeti Bajnoksag III standings. Puskas Akademia II remain a difficult side to beat, though their inability to hold onto the lead will frustrate the coaching staff. Balatonalmadi SE will take confidence from a resilient away performance. With the season still unfolding, this draw could prove valuable for both clubs as they look to climb the table.
