Pécsi MFC secured a convincing 3-0 home victory over Szekszárd UFC in the Hungarian Nemzeti Bajnokság III, with a controlled performance built on midfield dominance and clinical finishing. The three points strengthen Pécs’ position and extend their reputation as one of the division’s more formidable home sides.

Match overview

Pécsi MFC began the match with purpose, moving the ball quickly and using the width of the PMFC Stadion to stretch Szekszárd’s defensive block. The visitors tried to press high, but Pécs’ midfielders were comfortable in tight areas and repeatedly played through the first line. The opening goal came midway through the first half, the reward for a patient passing sequence that ended with a low finish from inside the box.

Szekszárd UFC responded with a brief spell of pressure, forcing a corner and a long-range effort, but Pécs’ goalkeeper was alert and the defence stood strong. The home side doubled their lead early in the second half, and from that point the result never looked in doubt.

Key moments

The first goal set the tone: a move that started at the back and ended with a composed finish after the Szekszárd defence was pulled out of shape. The second arrived shortly after the interval, when Pécs won the ball in midfield and broke quickly. A precise through ball split the defence, and the forward rounded the goalkeeper before slotting into the empty net.

The third goal came late in the second half, a header from a corner that capped a dominant team performance. Szekszárd’s best chance arrived in the closing stages, but a last-ditch block preserved the clean sheet. Pécs’ bench also made an impact, with substitutes helping to maintain the tempo and close out the game.

Tactical story

Pécsi MFC’s 4-3-3 allowed them to control the centre of the pitch. The midfield trio pressed together, won second balls and recycled possession efficiently. Full-backs pushed high to create overloads, while the front three interchanged positions to confuse the Szekszárd back line. Without the ball, Pécs dropped into a compact shape and forced the visitors wide, where crosses were comfortably dealt with.

• Final score: Pécsi MFC 3-0 Szekszárd UFC
• Competition: Hungary Nemzeti Bajnokság III
• Goals: First-half opener, early second-half breakaway, late set-piece header
• Clean sheet: Pécs defended their box well and limited clear chances

Standout performers

Pécs’ attacking midfielder was the game’s creative force, linking play and providing the assist for the second goal. The centre-forward’s movement created space for others and was rewarded with a goal. At the back, the captain organised the defence and won several important headers. For Szekszárd, the goalkeeper made a series of saves that kept the margin respectable, while their central midfielder never stopped running.

Season impact

This was a statement home win for Pécsi MFC, who showed they can combine patience in possession with ruthless finishing. The clean sheet will please the coaching staff as much as the three goals. Szekszárd UFC, meanwhile, will need to regroup quickly; conceding early in the second half made their task much harder, and they struggled to create meaningful chances after that.
