Nyíregyháza claimed an impressive 2-1 away victory over Puskás Akadémia on Sunday night in the Hungary Fizz Liga, using a fast start and a well-timed second-half goal to secure all three points. The result adds another twist to the early-season picture and gives the visitors a notable road win against one of the league’s more established sides.

Match overview

Nyíregyháza began with intent and were rewarded in the 11th minute when a quick attacking move opened up the Puskás Akadémia defence. The early goal forced the hosts to take more initiative, and they gradually worked their way back into the contest. Puskás Akadémia found an equaliser in the 39th minute, finishing off a sustained spell of pressure with a composed strike from inside the penalty area.

The game remained finely balanced after the interval, with both sides creating half-chances. The decisive moment arrived in the 73rd minute when Nyíregyháza regained the lead following a clever set-piece routine. Puskás Akadémia pushed forward in the closing stages, but the visitors defended their box with determination and managed the final minutes intelligently.

Key moments

• 11th minute: Nyíregyháza take the lead with a sharp move down the right and a precise finish at the near post.
• 39th minute: Puskás Akadémia equalise after a patient build-up, drawing the away defence out before striking from the edge of the area.
• 73rd minute: Nyíregyháza score the winner from a set-piece, reacting quickest to a loose ball inside the box.
• Late pressure: Puskás Akadémia send more players forward, but Nyíregyháza’s goalkeeper and centre-backs hold firm.

Tactical story

Nyíregyháza’s game plan was built on compactness and quick transitions. They conceded possession for long spells but limited Puskás Akadémia to efforts from outside the box and defended crosses well. Their midfield worked hard to screen the back four, and the front players were efficient when chances arrived.

Puskás Akadémia controlled much of the ball but lacked the final cutting edge. Their equaliser showed what they were capable of when they moved the ball quickly, yet they struggled to sustain that intensity after the break. Nyíregyháza’s willingness to defend deep and counter in numbers proved decisive.

Standout performers

Nyíregyháza’s goalkeeper made several important interventions, particularly during the late Puskás Akadémia surge. The midfield anchor broke up play effectively, while the match-winner showed composure in the decisive moment. For Puskás Akadémia, the creative midfielder was at the heart of their best moves, but the home side will rue their failure to convert territorial control into a second goal.

What it means for the table

The away win gives Nyíregyháza a valuable boost in the Hungary Fizz Liga standings and strengthens their confidence ahead of a demanding run of fixtures. Puskás Akadémia, meanwhile, are left to reflect on a night when they created enough pressure but not enough clear chances. In a league where away points are precious, Nyíregyháza’s disciplined performance stands out as one of the weekend’s more impressive results.
